Oops, did not realize it was that much. You might still want to start a new thread about that device you are considering. That's because others may be able to offer insight into alternative ways to accomplish what you want. |

So, the upgrade allows for HDR and Dolby Vision, too?

Here is the information listed on Bryston’s website about the SP3 and the available upgrade.
http://www.bryston.com/products/digital_audio/SP3.html http://www.bryston.com/PDF/news/2017...3_version3.pdf There is no mention of Dolby Vision anywhere. So my best guess is that the SP3 even with the upgraded board will not do Dolby Vision. With Bryston’s recent announcement of the SP4, I doubt that Bryston will be putting resources in developing new features/capabilities for the SP3. I am eagerly waiting for more news on the SP4. |

You are correct. It is someone else’s technology. Bryston is putting all kinds of money and research in new products (speakers, turntables, etc.) I think that this is the reason why they went elsewhere (Storm Audio) to get a digital preamp that is up to date. Bryston had been working on that SP3 board upgrade for a very long time. It is likely to be two years or more since I have been hearing about it. But digital technology moves too fast. By the time Bryston was ready to release the board upgrade, technology had moved past that. I still own the SP3, but have no plans to put money into (what I believe is) a dead end road. |
