I guess that means that the version that will come out at the end of the year, you know the "Director's cut" "special edition" will have all that. I guess I'll just have to buy that one too.
Oh 2D loses quite a bit. There were several instances at the movies where I lifted my glasses for an instant or closed one eye, you lost a lot.

You will probably get to buy this one at least twice more, the 2D Special Edition in the Fall and then the 3D edition sometime next year.

Cameron also plans on rereleasing to the IMAX theaters this fall with a few minutes of added content.

I'll buy the 2D Special Edition but i have no use for the 3D version. I'll wear the glasses at the theater but not at home. Besides I just bought my new 50" Panasonic in December so it's going to be here for awhile. I'll buy a larger monitor before I buy a 3D monitor. As to IMAX, I'd go see it again. I saw it both in 3D and 3D IMAX and I liked the IMAX version better. I don't we are going to see an affordable home IMAX set up for some time.

Make sure you check out the THX musical plant-life trailer after the end credits. Talk about some serious LFE!

I guess a lot of people wanted it.

Avatar! It's basically a big, blue, 3D money-printing machine. The previous record for Blu-ray sales was held by The Dark Knight, but Avatar has come along and doubled it.

The Dark Knight set the first-day Blu-ray sales record of 600,000 back in 2008. Avatar sold 1.2 million copies on Tuesday. By Thursday that number had climbed to 2.7 million, surpassing The Dark Knight's 18 month sales total of 2.5 million. And keep in mind that these are sales of the bare-bones edition. We still haven't seen the deluxe or 3D editions.

... the soundtrack was especially remixed for home. I imagine it rivals the sound quality of IMAX on a good system. Cameron released the movie in 16 x 9 to match the new IMAX aspect ratio. What I have seen of the new 3D is very good indeed. I, too, have recently bought a new projector, but I bought it knowing full well that I will probably replace it when the the right 3D projector comes out.

... true, and it would be easy to miss it because it follows the end credits and a red warning sign. You could easily have quit watching before it comes up.

I was pleasantly surprised that my first-gen Sony BD player would play Avatar, esp. considering how many discs it would not play over the last few years without first installing a firmware upgrade. The last firmware upgrade I installed was late last year, though I now see there is a new update available this month.

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D and was impressed by both the believability and the restraint (i.e., limited gimmicks) of the 3D presentation. I did find the glasses somewhat cumbersome, and was annoyed that I could not cock my head to either side -- the 3D glasses seemed to be somewhat polarized -- especially in such a long movie.

I was equally impressed by the depth and clarity of the 2D Blu-ray disc. It is by far the most immersive picture I've ever seen from a disc, to the extent that I think a lot of what I attributed to 3D in the theater had more to do with the (2D) talents of Weta and ILM than with the 3D presentation.
