Right now after putting my system back together and the cables havent had a chance to settle down and the outlet is fresh I hear negative changes. Female voices are congested, bass is thick and slow, everything is more forward than usual but weird the sound stage is wide. I expect this all to change back soon enough. I was getting some slight line noise in my surround amp when ever I turned on one of those curly fluorescent lights, that is gone now. I read Oyaide R1 outlets take forever to burn in many times, so there are a lot of so called audiofools out there Maybe it is the polished Beryllium Copper base metal, plated with platinum, and then the R1 is finished with palladium plating that does it or it is in out heads.

David.......The PS Audio Soloist Premier SE is not your cheap contractor grade plastic receptacles that are almost universally installed in every home, and more than likely your home, as well. For many years in the electrical contracting business I have dealt with, purchased, and installed practically ever type of receptacle, and there are substantial, measurable, and verifiable differences in the better grades. When speaking of the Soloist Premier SE outlet, we are not just dealing with a high grade receptacle. There are a number of advanced features designed into the Soloist Premier SE that go well beyond the normal receptacle. The Soloist Premier utilizes a balanced power coupler known as a balun for filtering, and non-volatile MOV's for surge and spike protection. A Balun is a donut of powdered iron with a wire wrapped around each half of the donut. In the case of the Soloist, the balun is quite large and the wire extremely heavy gauge so there's no degradation of micro and macro dynamics as voltage and current are delivered to connected components. The non-volatile super MOV technology for surge protection provides 100% spike protection for anything connected.

To outline the Soloist Premier SE, it cleans the power coming out of the AC socket without restricting the power, while the power coupler reduces common and differential mode noise by up to 40 dB, plus performs non-volatile surge protection on the circuit.

I can understand that you may not be familiar with the Soloist Premier SE, but those who select and use them as a first line of defense in quality power distribution understand their value, and are not a "bunch of nuts." Everything that comes from your sound system, EVERYTHING, begins with 120 volts AC. The cleaner that AC can be made, with the least restriction to current flow, the better your sound system's performance. Trust me when I tell you, the PS Audio Soloist Premier SE is a lot more than a simple contractor grade receptacle. Whether you choose to use them or not is your business, Despite your opinion, those of us who do see and hear their value are not eccentric screwballs.

HK, does Val agree that you have good hearing or would she say that is it just selective.

I am waiting to have my electrician run another dedicated line and install my Soloist near my component rack. Hope to have that done within a week or so.

Dan, you forgot one other thing the Soloist SE can do...

They can fly; I had 60 of them one day, and the next thing I knew they were all gone!

Yes, she says it is "Selective", but she decides on the "Selection". I am sure you have heard the overused quote "Listen to Me, I am Talking to You"

The Soloist SE is good but PsAudio has to step it up it they want to compare to one of these ... talk about audio bliss.

Dan,

I can understand " break in" where electronics are concerned to a certain extent. I am not bashing the soloist SE, I can understand the value in surge protection built in to the outlet. If you are using a Soloist with a PPP how do you explain being able to hear a audible difference since the PPP regenerates the AC ?

Maybe Ryan will step in and answer this question better but I remember reading Paul saying "Indeed, the PPP does regenerate new power and it is like having a power station next store - but the implication is that the system is perfect and - let’s be honest here - there’s no such thing as perfection. We can get pretty danged good, but perfect’s hard to come by." I am guessing every little thing to cleanup the input power helps the PPP do its job that much better.

David.......The Soloist Premier SE is not just a surge protector. You need to understand that surge protection is a secondary performance feature of the Soloist Premier SE, and only performs that task when a spike is present on your circuit. It is the balanced power coupler, the balun that is filtering common and differential mode noise from the AC line continuously, that is the primary feature. This filter is not the last word on noise reduction of the AC line, but is effective within its designed parameters. When the Soloist Premier SE is used in conjuction with a Power Plant Premier the noise reduction is cumulative.

Obviously, the Power Plant Premier is a far more complex piece of power distribution equipment, capable of completely regenerating the AC sine wave, reducing total harmonic distortion on the AC line output to almost infinitesimally low levels, and regulating the new pure sine wave output voltage irrespective of the input line voltage level. This is a notable achievement. The added benefit of placing a Soloist Premier SE before the PPP is to essentially help reduce the work load of the PPP by removing some of the grunge on the AC line in advance.

I want to remind you once again, everything you hear coming out of your loudspeakers begins as an AC sine wave coming out of your home's wall receptacle. There is nothing esoteric or magical about what happens as the AC is used in our preamps, amps, sources, and speakers, but one thing has been proven, noise reduction on the AC line is audible, and measurable. The cleaner and more stable the AC power is to your equipment, the cleaner and more pure your sonic presentation will be. This improvement can be heard, particularly to the enthusiast who pays close attention to their sound system's performance.

All you guys are great. And I really don't want to stir the pot, but I have to agree with David on this one. I think some of us(me included), convince ourselves that an improvement was made, because we replace something with something else that costs more money. I replaced my outlets recently too. Did I hear an improvement? My mind tells me I did, but i doubt it....My system sounded pretty damn good before I did it. I know my plugs stayed in tighter.
Sorry guys........
