Congrats Pete. I love my 105D also. It does everything. It even plays some of my old DVD super audio cds. I use it a lot for watching Netflix and have my TV cable box run right into it. The auto updates are very easy, like the new Tidal update, though I haven't tried it yet.

I have the Oppo 83SE, the 95, and the 103. All are till spinning along fine. No doubt, I will be in line for the 4k Oppo that has to be coming out soon.

Pete, a very nice review.
And as dan said, it should perform a lot better still after some hours on it.
My 95 started to blossom after 150-200 hours.

Nice stack of gear. Wow!

Thank you gentlemen....I'm pretty excited with this unit. I'm curious as to the break-in changes you mention. Meanwhile, it's movie time tonight!

Pete - What do you use for processing in your Main System? Are you 5.1? 7.1? 5.1.4? etc.

Obviously, the 105D has a 7.1 decoder on board and you've got stacks of amps . . .

damacman....I'm just an old fashioned 2 channel guy...

The core of my setup is the McIntosh C40 preamp, with its main outputs feeding a Sumo Delilah active crossover. The crossover low pass (summed output) feeds one McIntosh MC501 amplifier, which drives a JBL B460 subwoofer. The crossover high pass outputs feed my left and right McIntosh MC501 amplifiers, which drive my JBL L220A's. So, I guess we could call me a 2.1 guy.

So, with this arrangement I use the (mixed-down) stereo outputs of the BDP-105D. Since I only have one pair of balanced inputs on my C40 preamp, (in use for my McIntosh MDA1000 DAC) I have to use the unbalanced stereo outputs on the Oppo player. I feed these to the "CD1" inputs on the C40.

Gotcha. I did pretty much the same thing for a LONG time with all kinds of variations of gear beginning with an MC240 for my Polk Monitor 5s and a Phase Linear 400 for my subs [(4) 8"] with an MX110 tuner preamp and Audio Control electronic x-over (think 1991). By '94 I had graduated to a Nak PA7 on some BIG Altecs (9846-8A) and an MC2300 on the subs (dual 18") and I ran it that way for a few years before migrating to strapped MC2300s on the tops and whatever I had on hand for the subs. Honestly, all of those variations were a blast.

I personally lusted after the C40 preamp until I stumbled across a deal on a C100 that I simply couldn't refuse. And this was only in the last two years . . .

I lusted for a C40 for quite a while until I finally bought a brand new one in 1997. I also admired the C100 around that time, but it was out of reach for me. I know there are arguably better McOfferings, especially for example the C1000, but I don't lose sleep over it because quite honestly the C40 has worked out really well all these years in my system. It does so many things so very well while sounding really fine that I haven't found myself having any really strong urges to replace it. It is of ideal physical size for what I have going on in my rig, and it manages my many analog sources very well.

It's really been a fine preamp/control center.

Great to hear your vote of approval on functionality and sound.

Have you tried to play an external drive or PC through it? Tried hdmi input?

Pete the closer I look at your audio gear, I'm transported back to the 1970's. Haven't seen a DBX 3BX in years, I always loved its breathing effect when decompression was over cooked. Same thing with the Soundcraftsmen Parametric Equalizer, lets you widen the Q and specifically define the band. And JBL studio monitors and subs....great stuff Pete. And Crown gear, it keeps getting better. If only you would open your ears and wallet for multichannel. I too lived only in the 2 channel world for 30 years, but once I heard some top end multichannel systems properly set up, I had to do it!!!!!
