Very interesting, thanks for posting. It illustrates the sheer amount of experimentation required for the Infinitys to sound their best in that room.
Absolute dedication to every detail matters. Its really must be an awesome experience to hear that system.

Gary...congrats on your Infinity IRS 5s. Truly a destination speaker. I have a question: I know Arnie Nudell became affiliated with Genesis speakers after Infinity closed shop, and if I look at the current Genesis1.2 speakers, they look pretty much like the Infinity IRS 5s. Are they simply an updated version of your speakers. Same technology: midrange and tweeter tower in line source config with separate servo-controlled woofer towers. Here is a pic of the Genesis 1.2 and to my untrained eye, they look pretty much like the IRS 5s:

Cyril, there are actually differences between the Infinity IRS-V and the Genesis 1.2. The Genesis has ring tweeters and a single midrange ribbon while the Infinity has EMIT tweeters and EMIM midranges. The Genesis 1.2 also has 12-12" woofers per channel (six front and six rear facing-it's dipolar) and the Infinity has only six 12" woofers per channel all facing front. The woofer amplifiers are also different. The Infinity has one 2 kW amplifier for each woofer tower and the Genesis 1.2 has six separate, 400 watt amplifiers, one for each front and rear facing pair per channel (2.4 kW for each channel of the woofers).

Jim, I do have my speakers arranged a bit differently. In the owner's manual, it states that you can set the speakers up either way, in a line or the midrange/tweeter towers in front. They can also be arranged in an arc focused on the center seating position. My speakers are about four feet front the front wall. Since my listening room is not separate from the rest of the house--it's actually a room we use a lot for entertaining and I use that system a lot for listening even if I'm not in that room, I didn't want to pull the speakers still farther into the room. Four feet from the front wall gives enough room for the speakers to breathe.

I've had the chance to actually listen to Paul's new room. Back in February, PS Audio hosted the Colorado Audio Society to introduce their new DSD DAC, (which btw, is frickin' incredible).

The room is amazing and the setup is superb. Should be since Arnie Nudell helped to tune the speakers to the room.

PS Audio is a very inviting company. Paul and staff are indeed excellent hosts and are always willing to show off their new sound room. If you ever get a chance to visit Boulder, take a trip to PS Audio. It will be well worth your time.
