I am actually not surprised about that comment. The OP said that the collection includes items from the turn of the 20th century so it is quite possible for those items to have a value from the historical perspective but not necessarily worth releasing on CD to the general public due to the recording quality of that time.

I understand that to which I will say more in a second. My original laugh
was that a highly collectible vinyl record shouldn't have to be compared
to a CD at all, no matter how good its sound quality is. And I'm not
demoting CDs at all, my whole collection is digital and a lot of it comes
from CDs. The original quote sounds almost ironic.

More to your point, if some of those records are little treasures, the
emphasis should be on that, by how vintage they are and their
uniqueness. The CD quote is just out of context IMO.

I’m making book on what this collection will ultimately sell for.

If it sells...

At 120g, the collection would weight 2.5 tons ! And that's only the vinyl without the packaging. It would also be at least 150m long. The buyer will need storage space !

My sister’s best friend’s father died and left 20 linear feet of shelved chamber music vinyl - all in pristine condition, some dating to the dawn of the LP format. I didn’t want it and ended up giving it away to someone once removed from this forum. Chamber music is arguably more mainstream than opera.
