Why? What's going on in your rig on that you don't like? Often, a small tweak will get things 'right'.

I have my high efficiency speakers that I set up with Inspire amp and preamp, sounds perfect. Fairly regularly I put those speakers and the Inspire amp away and set up Magnepan speakers and a 700 watt Class D amp. The LP27a just doesn't work with that amp. I have another tube preamp that works great with both amps.

I wonder if this is due to the relatively low gain of the LP27a? What is it, something like 12 dB using a 27 tube? Or perhaps a poor match of its output impedance with your Class D SS amp's input impedance? Not all tube preamps work well with SS amps.
