Unhappy Anyone ever heard of this Mac preamp problem?

Mine is a C220 having this issue.

The display is garbled with all sorts of unusual characters........when rotating the input selector. The unit still appears to work. At times it comes on by itself.

I have tried the reset procedure and it doesn't change anything.

Some display s are normal such as at power up it says "Tube warmup" correctly. The remote brings up some normal displays as well such as trim and balance.

For the most part, when it is playing I can't see what input is active. Have to go by the sound.

If you have tried resetting and that didn’t fix it, it is time to have McIntosh look at it.

Or you can take it to Terry DeWick in Tennessee.

Terry DeWick has a 90 day backlog as of 10/5. If you can’t wait look elsewhere.

Terry has reworked a few older Macs for me. I was thinking about Audio Classics. Hate to ship it to NY but what else to do? I will probably land it on my bench and take a peak inside to see if anything can be cleaned and re-seat connectors prior.

Very handy Ivan having the service manuals here (thanks). I already went through it. C220 is a dang computer.

Yeah, AC will probably be your best bet. That's the problem w/microprocessor based equipment, unless it's something simple like a loose cable, you need a pro.

I had something similar when I had a MAC6700 and had to have my local dealer reload the firmware.

I'm not certain whether Terry tends firmware related issues.

I have been traveling and when home listening to my other systems. Saturday it will undergo inspection on my bench just to see if it is something simple. Otherwise and more than likely into the boxes and away it goes to AC.
