With Macs current speakers and previous models with metal tweeters and mids the tube pre-amps and I just don't get along. Now with Snell A7, Magico S and A series I have no issues with the better tube pre-amps sonically. The limited flexibility and lack of features are my biggest concern. B&W latest speakers don't do well with Mac tube pre-amps either. Any speakers with resonant tweeters or have elevated high ends just don't work well for me and throwing in tube pre-amps just isn't my cup of tea. Now if you are using a MEN220 to tame the high end and smoothing first then I might be ble to accept tube pre-amps if they had the flexbility. Seeing a graphic EQ in the tube pre-amp section of the MA 12000 looks like a big step in the right direction to me.

Not my experience. My C22/MC275 sound great with B&W's latest, and judging by others' signatures, I don't think I'm alone here. Also, I tried a MEN220 in this system because I have a tricky room. It "tamed" the high end, reducing detail and life, so I sent it back.

Just my ears--I encourage all to listen for themselves

I just ordered the C1100 based on amazing reviews on it's sound, but it occurred to me that it doesn't even come with a bass/treble adjustment, so I'm praying it's not going to be an issue for my smallish room and quiet listening at times ...

I switched to tubes a while back and never looked back. However, I think it really depends on a) what speakers you have and b) what sort of sound you prefer.

+1 - I’ve had good experience with Mac tubes and B&W speakers
