Don - thanks for the tips. Yes I have been using Discogs for a while now, I use it to inventory my record collection and then export to my iPhone so when I go shopping for used records I dont buy duplicates anymore.

Hey Barr-
Speaking of Discogs.... (which is cool) I have just started buying from Better Records- They specialize in 'Hot Stampers', which are a process of gathering a bunch of probable 'stampers' that should be good, then clean them w/ a 7.5K RCM, then listen to them all (we should apply for this sexy job !!), then rate them- I am Mr Skepticalpants, trust me- I've done some comparisons w/ 'regular' records, & they are 'Better'- Some AA 'un-named' members can attest, though it's undeniable, the SQ- I personally, only care about SQ (after the music first of course), not collectibility of LPs- Anyway, since I figure that you're a music/LP fan, I thought I'd mention this new revelation- You gotta come over & check 'em out ! So my wife asks, when we are leaving our "listening/demo/what's next" session with Matt, "so, when are the boxes going to arrive? I replied "not this week, but soon"...
Anyway, I had a great visit with Matt. During this time we were looking at how to upgrade from my current Aurieges / Montille EL84 / Super 8 system. My decision now is to choose: while keeping the Montille and budget, do I go a) Monbrison with the O/96 or b) Masseto with the O/93. It is a chicken or egg decision - any considered thoughts would be welcome, as it is all very wonderful! Jonathan K.

Also don't know the size of your room. I have the O/96s and once had the Masseto and have heard the Monbrison. I have not heard the 0/93s. Masseto is a definate upgrade from the Monbrison. I believe the decision on the DeVore O's would depend more on your room size. Barr |

Agreed. That's why I would get the o/96 if his policy doesn't apply to Devores. It's not that much bigger. (Room size allowing). Plus moving more air generally seems more impactful to me.

JK,
My vote is for the O96's. I found that once I got a quality speaker (I own the O96's) everything became more transparent and i was able to hear and discern differences with my equipment. If you go this route you may find you're happier than you appreciated with your other equipment. As for Matt's upgrade program, I would encourage you to ask and explain the paths you may go to get a clear understanding of what Matt can do for you. My experience with him in this regard has been great. But I've not pursued an upgrade on speakers. Just equipment. |

My vote would be for the Masseto and the Line Magnetic 755 speakers.
I have had these speakers for close to a year now and am currently running them with a Masseto and Corton Charlemagnes. They are simply phenomenal speakers and offer what I would consider to be a very viable and slightly different option than the Devores. Try to hear them if you can. |
