Thanks JH. Of course, that Shindo makes so many amps puts the problem back on the consumer who of course asks you and the dealer! I sort if solved it by the 300b's, but those gm70's were awfully good too...

Well, Freestone. I solved the problem in the only way I know how... Keeping one of each model

This is the truest thing I have read in a while. Go to a good dealer, listen to his advice, and then reap the benefits of great gear and set up.

Every Shindo piece I have heard just sucks you right in to what is going on, and as Jonathan says, they all do it brilliantly but in different ways. When people ask me about differences, I just ask them to listen. Trying to convey it in words is almost a folly, that runs the risk of under-representing what is actually happening.

My room is less than optimal but recently have made some speaker placement adjustments.
It made much more than a subtle difference. In fact a very big improvement. Almost like an equipment upgrade. I get it!
Will follow this thread with interest. Thanks Jonathan.

+1 on that. No doubt even small changes in speaker placement are easily heard.
It pays to be a little experimental with this stuff. I suggest some painters tape to mark off your previous position, so it's easy to return to it. Cheers -Don

I'd love to hear how you would compare the Cortese to the current iteration of the Haut Brion...

that's pretty easy:
compare Aquila clanga to Aquila heliaca

then Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot to Puligny-Montrachet Folatières

then the colors used by Gauguin to those used by van Gogh

and finally ...

back to the system approach: Jules Coleman summarized it well, as usual.

"I have a penchant for a system approach. The sound you get in your home is the sound of a system, not the sound of component parts. In my experience, if you find a designer whose voicing speaks to you and touches you, then why not try to put together as much of a system as you can from that designer. Who cares if not every one of his products gets a Class A ranking or something equally ludicrous. The parts go together to sing in one voice and if that is the voice that moves you, why wouldn't you pursue that approach rather than an aimless pairing of 'ranked' components?"

As expected with Jules Coleman, well said, succinct and to the point.
It appears with Shindo many of us have found this direction to be the way to go.
