I've been using the PWT paired with the PWD Mk II for a few years now.

Great combination and highly recommended...but yea, the drive can be a bit noisey when it first pulls in a CD.

I used the I2S HDMI connection between the PWT and PWD for awhile. I used two decent cables: Harmonic Tech audio only HDMI and also a top of the line PS Audio HDMI cable.

A Shunyata Cobra Digital coax blew them both away. Huge improvement in all areas of the sound, especially in sound staging, coherence, a tamer treble, and just more musical to my ear. YMMV.

So, yea I2S is good, but try other cables/connectors if you can.

So does the PWT use the buffered digital output *only* on the I2S output, or would it be in effect with the AES/EBU digital out too? I've got a Classe CDT-1 transport that's really fussy, I get an "ERR" message about 25% of the time, and most of the time it's brand new discs.

Definitely considering a PWT if it has that buffered i/o that would work with a AES/EBU too.

Thanks!

The way the buffer works - it's only on the I2S input. The digital lens on the network bridge works on the same way.

I believe that the answer to your question is yes, the PWT buffers its digital output signal regardless of which output is used. However the I2S input on their DACs is the only input that buffers the incoming digital data, as doggiehowser stated above.

With the proper power cord, I have never heard a better transport for anything less than FU money that beat the PWT. It's better than all of Mark
Levinson's transports.

I use the PWT with the DSD dac crimson amps and Rega Rs10 speakers. I have owned some very expensive transports in the past from Merdian,Audiomeca etc and they don,t hold a candle to the PWT
