Fiber Optic speaker cable?

My friend told me a Japanese company is introducing Fiber Optic speaker cable.
Supposedly reinforced with a jacket to allow bends etc, but protects it from breaking. Any truth to this Master? IF this rumor is true, I assume our amps and speakers would require optical inputs. When I asked him that question he said, there making those too. I can't find anything legit.

Even if it were true, your speakers would need DAC's.

I think wire cables will be around a little longer.

I deal with fiber everyday and the industry uses fiber jumpers to "connect" this to that after it comes off the outside plant cable. These jumpers, are very flexible; like anything else they have a bending radius limitation -- microbends can ocurr if the fiber is bent too severely. Fiber is quite strong especially when it is within it's protective jacket. I will post a pic of a fiber jumper later.

The outside plant cable, buried in the ground, is the portion of the optical path that is bend resistant. It is constructed, in most cases, with an inner metal casing, one layer from the outside jacket as a deterent to rodents that take a liking to the outside jacket taste as they dig their tunnels. Try forming a 8 foot circle of fiber outside plant fiber cable by winding each successive loop ontop of itself.

As far as using fiber in lieu of speaker cables -- you'll need DAC conversion to convert analog to digital & reverse into the speakers.

1st shot is of a 1 meter LC-LC connector fiber optic jumper - 2d shot is of a 3 meter FC-FC connector jumper. Both with their respective protective end caps. The longest jumpers I've seen run is 65 meters.

Sorry to be off topic -- but what Im about to say, is rather important since this thread mentions fiber optics.

In case you're wondering -- the equipment in place today in my facilities, transmits over one of these dinky fibers, 1.92Tb/s -- that's close to 2 Trillion bits per second on one piece of glass -- coast to coast folks (not intercity traffic).
