Some of us here would put in a good word for the Avid Acutus SP.

Serge,

I couldn't be happier with my VPI table. No issues whatsoever and VPI has always been great about answering any questions.

The Prime Signature is no slouch at all. It is quite the performer and looks great!

If you end up pulling the trigger on one, make sure you get the dual pivot mod to go with it. It makes the tonearm a lot easier to handle, setup and there are some sonic benefits too.

Good Luck!
Erik

Thanks for the feedback Erik. VPI is definitely a contender.

I’m not exactly sure what drives companies to make changes quickly, but i suspect it is primarily to make more money and to keep up with their competitors.
Apparently the Gimbaled tonearm came about after the old man had too many to drink and wiped out the cantilever or a Lyra Atlas Cart. They were planning on producing it as an option until they stuck the deal with Mark Levinson so all those gimbaled arms went on to that table and they could not put any on their own tables due to a compete clause.

well there you go, not only do they spin the 'black pizza' but you as well. Seriously, while there is constant evolution taking place, that be no means makes their products obsolete.

I like the HR-X because not only is it a beautiful table, it's a classic design that's had real staying-power in the lineup.
true and with that being said it's 'little brother' (Aries 3) is as competent a table today as it was 9 years ago when I bought mine !

Yes I've always admired the Aries 3 too; very much looks like an HR-X lite! My friend with a Scoutmaster has almost bought an Aries 3 a few times now; I think he should.

I had an old Rega P2 and I thought I was happy with it till my wife talked me into buying a VPI Scout Jr in Red on closeout (she's a HUGE OSU fan). It's an amazing sounding turntable. Built like a brick outhouse and have no issues what so ever.

I like that I can upgrade things on it if I want.
