Wink Dual 402's

I run two MC 402's bridged at 800 watts a piece. You would effectively be doubling your power by adding an additional MC 402 at a third of the cost.

I totally appreciate all that have participated in this thread.

As I have continued to mull around my next upgrade, I had a conversation with Chuck Hinton at Mcintosh.

When I asked him about my MC402 vs. the 601's, he said that the 601's were obviously better, but under ordinary circumstances those differences would be subtle.

It was very refreshing to hear a company rep not try to sell me really hard.

What a great company!

I'd expect the jump to be fairly subtle, though it is still on my upgrade list...just perhaps not the next upgrade.

Any reason you aren't thinking 1.2KW? Voiced like the 402/501 (better) but with the power of the newer breed monoblocks (501s tended to run out of gas but the 601s can go a country mile - but they are significantly brighter - atypical Mc).

The 1.2s, at least gently used ones, wouldn't be much more than new 601s - but would be a monumental improvement over the 402 (in terms of headroom and feeling of control) and the 601 (in terms of sound quality/reproduction).

That is something to consider.

I definitely need to avoid any potential brightness.

Refreshing indeed. I'd certainly consider post #11 as well.

+1

I'm doing the same. The 402's sound great and can deliver a lot of power. Plus, you can always split them up again for 4 individual channels.

Anyone here running a MX121 with a MC402? If so what are your thoughts. For some reason I can't post a new thread on the subject. I currently have 802 Diamonds, MC402, Emotiva XPA-5, and in desperate need of a new SSP. Thinking MX121 would fit the bill nicely.

Dan,

You probably couldn't start a new thread because you didn't have 10 posts.

Looks like you now have 10 posts as a result of this last post, so I'd encourage you to start a new thread.
