Default Carmen Gomes in DXD

I have not heard this format before but I have an Esoteric K03-x. It does not appear that my player will play this format. I was wondering if anyone has heard this in DXD. Any better than PCM?

Yes , it will play the file as it's just a pcm 24/384 file to which a new name was given.

If I may offer a slight correction, DXD is actually 24bit/352.8kHz PCM. According to the specs for your Esoteric K03-x it will support playback of DXD via its USB input. The latest Carmen Gomes release from Sound Liaison was mastered directly in DXD and all other formats are conversions. They feel that they've achieved their best sound quality yet in that format, but any of their releases are of unusually fine quality. So for those with a system that does not support DXD, you can still achieve excellent quality with any of the converted formats available. Hope this helps, it's an excellent album in any format!

Mike and Bill,
Thanks for the answers. I was not sure if the Esoteric would play DXD, but if I'm understanding this correctly it is PCM.
Thanks again. What a great site.

The SQ from SoundLiaisons is excellent on all of their releases (and I own them all). Even if I don't love the content, the SQ is so good that it's a wonderful listen.

I have the new Carmen Gomes in DXD and it is unbelievable. Until I got everything set just right (only plays via USB to my PSAudio DAC), it was down-sampled by Roon and it still sounded awesome. Once I got it configured to play into DXD, it was amazing. Perhaps the best recording/mastering/reproduction I've ever heard (but I'm a relative newbie at these things and don't have nearly the ear or experience of many on this forum).

+1.
It proves again that if the recording is done right at the very beginning any down sample will still sound very good.

Is there much difference between DXD and DSD128 ? My D1100 will play both but was wondering about file size.

I haven't compared them myself but their download file sizes are given as 5.82 GB for DXD and 2.88 GB for DSD128. If you have the hard drive space and your hardware supports both formats I'd go with DXD in this case since that was the format this recording was originally mastered in and it's only €5.00 additional.
