Field coil
Does field coil really make a large improvement over regular magnets?
Very interesting idea But much more expensive. And has anyone really heard the petite Latours vs the big latours? Do you lose much full range? Last edited by Freestone; 06-27-2012 at 08:38 PM. |

The two best speakers I've ever heard have used field coils (Shindo Latour and Lotus Granada). When done right field coils seem to have a presence that exceed even the best Alnicos magnets. Have not heard either the petite Latours or the newer LM Field Coil speakers but hope to in the near future. Definately worth an audition if you can swing it.

During the early days of hifi field coils were used in speakers because magnet technology was poor. The materials and technology were not available to make the potent magnets used in todays skeakers. Often times the field coils served as the choke filter (inductor) in the power supply.

hi. i run a pair of full field coil speakers (Classic Audio T1.4).
they do make a notable difference & well worth the money IMO. hv unfortunately not heard the Shindo Latours (had considered them but was told they're best with full Shindo upstream components. i'm primarily Kondo upstream components). |
