For a $7k preamp, any hiss is not normal.

C52 and 452 connected with balanced interconnects: dead quiet, with or without equalizer.

I would definitely expect some hiss on a tube pre-amplifier but never on a ss. |

Thank you for all of the feedback guys! Seems like Dave and I are in the same boat, and that most do not have this problem.

It may be as simple as a sensitivity difference in speakers. eedork - what speakers are you using? What is their sensitivity rating?

One thing Matt and I have in common: our C52 preamps are driving pretty old amplifiers. Mine (MC7300) is over 25 years old. I'm not sure how or if that would cause the hiss while utilizing the equalizer. Maybe some of you have ideas whether older solid state amps can keep up newer preamps.
Just to reiterate ... my speakers are KHorns and typically rate at 104-105 db. I purchased them in 1990. Also: I have never had my amp serviced but I "baby" my stereo equipment. Thanks, Dave |
