Glad to hear that the fan doesn't bother many people.

I seem to be settling on a Pass X250.8. A little different sound from the Classe. I like both very much, but as I said previously, in my room, the fan is the deciding factor. What is surprising to me (even after 55 years of audiophilia) is that two modern amps -- which both measure flat, I'm sure -- can sound so different: the Pass a but more up-front, the Classe laid back and unflappable.

Interesting comments. When you say upfront on the pass, do you mean staging?

When I had the Classe m600, the one thing I noticed was that it pulled the singer or atleast it seemed further front than my Boulder 2060.

Joey--

In my setup, the Classé gave a presentation like the orchestra at a classical concert: seemingly recessed behind the speakers, a lot like an actual stage. The Pass seems a little more midrangey and forward and a bit more liquid in the midrange and treble. Despite that, as I said, I've not seen any modern class-AB SS amps that don't measure flat, and I doubt very much these have any measurable departure from flatness. I haven't heard the Boulder gear, so can't comment on your experience.

I sent the Pass back to the dealer. The heat it threw off was just too much. Plus, to my ears, it seemed a bit colored in a way that was GREAT for vocal music but not so much for orchestral. I loved the sound of the CA-2300, except for the fan. I may give it another try.

See if you can get a different CA-2300 to try. The fan in mine is essentially silent. There may be some issues with the fan bearings in the unit you evaluated? (Hope it is that simple)

Yeah I never heard my fan... I wish you the best on your next classe. You thought about the m600?

I have been a fan of Classe mono blocks for years and highly recommend them, specially the M600. The only time you hear the fan in the m600 is when you first turn it on. It lasts about 10 seconds. After that, the m600 is dead quiet.
You might also want to consider other Classe monoblocks.

I seem to be the only one who had trouble with the CA-2300 fan. I only heard it once, after the amp was running for a few hours and it got too warm, I guess. It was not working hard, but it needed to run to maintain its temperature, and it sped up enough so that it was audible. It's still on my shortlist to try again.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.
