Esoteric G-01 Initial Impressions

First, I have to thank Keith(KMC45) for giving me the opportunity to purchase his G-01. Our transaction was as smooth as butter and I hope he feels the same...great guy as well!

I picked up the unit and after about four boxes, I pulled out the G-01. It's built like a tank as is the K-01X I'm pairing it with. I chose to use a 50 ohm Acrolink BNC cable from the A1 port to the back of the K-01X and set it to Master Clock enabling the 22m setting and bypassing PLL. After 3-5 minutes both clock lights were blue and I was ready to listen.

I must admit that I was weary about the possible gains because to my ears the K-01X is stellar on its own but after the music started to play, I realized there was more to be had with the combo. Looking back, listening only through the K-01X, I felt like I had seats toward the back of an auditorium. The G-01 brought me closer and put me right in the sweet spot. Instruments had better timbre and bass felt tighter with more impact even at lower listening levels. The sound just felt more believable and allowed me to sit back and listen to the effortless presentation. IMO, the gains I hear would not be as noticeable if my power wasn't pretty clean. The K-01X alone played from what I thought was a jet black background but the addition of the G-01 made it clear it could be even quieter. Add to that the precision the G-01 brings and cds start to sound like the artist is performing perfectly in my room. I couldn't be happier with the sound I have right now and then what happens?? My order of Gen 5 Transparent Reference SC & IC showed up and . If you're interested in the G-01,take the plunge, the water is really nice!

Hi Dave,

A big congratulations on your G-01. I can speak from experience that the addition of the G-01 to my system really raised the believability factor in my listening. Also, with the added resolution potential you now have, any future enhancements will be more readily apparent - isolation, cabling, exc.... Please keep us all posted as things develop! Ted.

Thanks for the comments! I only had four days with the G-01 before the cables arrived which is something I don't usually do but you got to strike while the irons hot and I couldn't be happier. Now I just need a preamp
