With the KT120 the amp will indeed run hotter because the KT120 draws more current for the filament, 1.8A vs. 1.5A with the 6550 tubes.
The power supplies in cj amps have enough margin and this is not a problem. CJ actually recommends the KT120 for your amp.

Just did a touch test after a few hours use. All is fine thermally with the top down, so to speak. Cats are staying away so there appears to be little risk running this configuration.

Now as Murphy's law would have it my CT5 remote is flakey. I always used the one from my CA200, and I have not used the CT5s own remote until now. Back to the dealers again. It's probably a solder somewhere although the battery compartment is not as solidly located as my other remote.

Well now that a LP70 resides in my stereo rack and I am enjoying every moment of such, I would like to educate myself on how to better it. Of course that has led me to this post which was most interesting and I think it would be a good time to reengage the previous individuals and ask what their long term report would be on the 120's.

Regards,

The KT120s have been running in my LP70S since day one without a problem. Wouldn't be without 'em!

ran stock 6550s, 120s, and chryo 120s in my pr 12 and the former and later in my lp 275s. In both cases the 6550 we're slow with less frequency extension at both ends, less detail, warmer. The non chryoed 120s were about a third of the way difference wise between 6550s and chryoed 120s. With the 275s and chryoed 120s I get fender not generic base with grawl that I like very much. I have put the 6550s back in after various other changes and found them wanting. If I keep them I may use them for burn in duty or during the summer when ac is bad. Try and find a seller of 120s that will allow them to be sent back to be chryoed if you are not happy with regular 120s

It's a very different tube I read somewhere.

KT 120 is just fine in my book.

Welcome David! I've been using the Kt 120's in my LP 140's since I bought them last spring & think they are terrific. I'll have to check out the 150's if they are compatible.

Regards,

John
