I didn't realize they had more gain. Thanks for mentioning.

It's interesting Dennis is moving over to 6550's in the Universal mono blocks. In my PSE amp some of my favorite output tubes are NOS Winged C 6550's. It's too bad they are no longer making them in the Svetlana plant. The Tung-Sol 6550 looks promising. Never heard those. All this talk about Universal amps has me curious what they are about.

[QUOTE=rusmeloman;923413]Hi guys!
As a result, I traded "Inspire SET and LP-3a" on Leben CS600.

Well regarded but I'll likely never be able to hear one...unless you turn it way up on a cold clear night.

Note: Iíve never had the luxury to hear 6550s in any of the Inspire amps.
Limited exposure other than KT150s in my Inspire Hot Rod Stereo amp.
We did not try KT 150s in either of the Universal offerings. Ask Straitwire if there are any lying around the shop and he could try them and report back....

straightwire,
What say you on this topic? Can you try 150s in the Monos, report back results?

I understand if you dont have them on hand, also aware they are 2x the cost of 6550s. I sent a note to Dennis, asking to consider to ship my Mono "tubeless" minus tube cost and I'll go ahead and commit to buy/try the 150s. It gives me a baseline to compare to the Inspire Hot Rod stereo amp running the same tube compliment too; understanding they are different amps though - that's fine. Also, I indicated the only reason I would not do this is IF you guys felt 6550s definitely sound better or/if the Monos are designed around the 6550s. Not sure how that could be if the amp is considered "Universal". Note: I do kinda like the top end of the KT150s in my prior Inspire Hot Rod. Thx.

Hey decooney, I donít think that Dennis has a quad of KT-150ís right now (I could be wrong). I want to hear the PSE monoís with KT-150ís too!
Analogís description of the PSE monoís sound as BIG is spot on!

In anticipation of receiving my 45 SET, I'd love to hear from those in the know about the various 45 types and sonic impressions of said tubes.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and considerations.
