I also moved from B&W N804 and S805 to SF Guarneri Memento. Listening to 802D and Memento side by side made me jump on the Memento. It is that much more musical, and better looking I might add.

My wife likes the the looks of all the Cremona and homage series speakers. Then again she had to look a Magnepan III's for 20 years. I have found my speaker brand for the foreseeable . I am amazed the bass is so good I do not need a sub. and they still having a sweet midrange and treble. If I upgrade these speakers it will be for either a Elipsa or a nice pair of pre owned Amati's or Strads. Since I purchased the Cremona's in Dec 08 I have been replacing my components to build a system around them; hence the MCD500 and MC501's are new as well.

Your wife thinks what are ugly; the Cremonas or the 501s? Neither makes any sense. I have heard both called many things, but ugly has NEVER been one of them.

I spent the afternoon at Sumiko with the owner, John Hunter. He graciously took time out of his busy schedule to set up a very enjoyable session with a pair of Sonus Faber Amati's.

Sumiko has some wonderful listening rooms that quckly spoil you. It's a room where the speakers can sound their absolute best, and it really reinforces how important the room is in getting things right.

John put on a couple of discs from people that I can't remember, but they sounded great. Then we tossed some of mine on, from LZ to Van Morrison, all of it worked.

Well, the speakers sounded great, I have to admit that I like them better than my Elipsa, and I like my Elipsa a lot. I could add a sub, but the sub doesn't make your speakers sound like those speakers did. Pull the trigger, or remodel the room for Strad's, or keep what I have. I've got some thinking to do.

John Hunter is a wealth of knowledge and he answers question without beating around any bushes. He's not shy with his opinions about things, and his opinions are formed from years of experience.

After we left Sumiko we went over to a place to listen to some Wilson W/P 8's. I won't say what they were powered by, or what front end was used, I will say I couldn't get through one song. They were at a good place, in a good room, but that sound just isn't for me.

Pretty good day overall.

Sounds like you had fun. The only extended time I was able to spend with Amati's they were driven by some Linn gear. Although Linn is not my favorite , paired with the SF's the sound was very good and very musical. I could see why you would lean towards these speakers.

i recognize these symptoms, let us know when the Amati's are in your house At this point your Elipsa's while fabulous ( I would love to have them in my house) have been replaced mentally. Now it is just a matter of time before you pull the trigger... I predict within the next month.

What didn't you like about the WP8s? Too bright? Too in-you-face?

Acquiring minds want to know .

If I hadn't played Clue with my Granddaughter at Christmas, I wouldn't have understood your comment.
