Default NOTICE: Posting photos too large for AA screen format

NOTICE to all members.......This notice is to inform you that photos are being posted to the forum that exceed the maximum screen width, forcing members to scroll left and right or up and down to view the photos in their entirety. This has been addressed in the past but evidently some members missed the message.

Please take a moment and make the necessary effort to resize your photos to no larger than 1400 pixels wide before posting them on Audio Aficionado. Going forward, any photo that exceeds 1400 pixels in width will be deleted without notice.

Please pass the word to members who may have unwittingly neglected to read this notice.

FYI: This photo is 1280 pixels wide by 720 pixels in height

Dan, I think I haven't understood clearly.
Do you have other examples like the picture above, to underline the notice.
Please....

Dan,

Would you please explain how this resolution has been decided as it basically SXGA at best, probably less than 100dpi and lower color depth. For modern devices I cannot even force the camera in my S10+ phone to take photos of this low a resolution. I also tried and the screen on my 2018 MacBook Pro cannot even be forced into this reduced resolution mode or something in the range less than the given pixel width and be legible or something the display driver supports.

That would force anyone with higher rez photos to have to manually edit and shrink every photo before uploading. This might affect collaboration on the forum.

Sure it is possible but looking at every single photo I have ever uploaded or any on my camera right now, they all fail the test..

The mobile app already seems to solve this and shrinks images to fit on screen when viewed. On pc or laptop screens, this can be countered by using a higher def resolution

OR....

Does the Tapatalk uploader/forum software allow you to set an auto-shrink parameter on every upload, i think it must based upon what I have seen elsewhere? If we insist on that low rez photo size limit perhaps that is a better way to go about it.

Thanks...I am hoping there is an alternative solution to accomplish this.

Mark

Photographs used to be downsized automatically until recently.

What you also can do is upload them to a hosting site and downsize them all at once before posting.

Well, I would think that picture gets the point across.

Thanks Bart...I thought the downsizing used to occur automatically too, glad to hear I was not the only one.

I am aware of hosting sites and also have tools for photo editing but frankly that's extra work and time for someone who already spends too much time on screen for work from early a.m. to late at night for work.

Out of curiosity, what hosting sites do you recommend?

Thanks!

Mark.......The latest software that Ivan is running does not resize photos automatically to fit the typical widescreen format (1920 x 1080). It will require manually editing photos for size before uploading.

I generally edit and save photos I wish to upload to AA at 1200 pixels width. Then I upload them to Flickr. This photo hosting website allows on the fly resizing when you select copy for the url of the photo you want. Also, when I am searching for a photo on Google Images I make certain I do not copy a photo with a pixel width that exceeds 1400 pixels such as the photo above.

The issue is that members are posting full resolution photos directly from cameras and phones that are as wide 3600 to 3800 pixels. This displays a photo on AA that only shows one third of the picture and forces members to scroll left and right or up and down to see the content without being able to view the entire photo at once. This is what we are trying to avoid. It does require a bit of extra work on the part of the poster.

What size pic does an iPhone 8 take?

I normally either am posting pics I take with my phone or grabbing something off the web. An example would be an album cover.

Have you been resizing my pics? If so, I will take some action or post fewer pics.

Craig.......No idea what the resolution of iPhone 8 photos are. My Samsung Galaxy S10 photo size is 4032 x 2268. That is way too large to post directly to AA. I save the photos to my computer hard drive, resize them with photo editing software, upload them to Flickr, then post them to AA. That is how I handle the size issue.

In the past I have resized photos for members. It is a chore for me because I have to copy the photo to my computer, resize it with my photo editing software, save it, upload it to Flickr, the copy and paste it back to AA. That simply became too much work for me. Resizing needs to be done by the original poster.
