Going back into time now:



A classic!
Recorded in '55 with poor equipment.
But marvelous playing, and albeit mostly in the style of the generation before him, he had a unique sound.

Ornette Coleman is coming to Antwerp in August (Festival "Jazz Middelheim"). I'm still hesitating. Because a couple of days later there is Abdullah Ibrahim. And I heard he's aging better.

To end the evening I'm ending with some really old stuff:



He's talking through his tunes, plays some weird notes in between, in fact he can't sing, but I do love 'em. Man he could play some piano and organ! His music puts a big smile on my face...
A bit like Satchmo, but Fats seems a little more crazy. They were dear friends by the way.

I don't know, between Dollar Brand and Ornette Coleman, I think I would choose the latter if I've never seen either.
