Older vinyl and VTF solution
For those that don't have adjustable VTF towers, try using the cork mat from VPI RCM's. I set my VTF for the more modern 180gm vinyl but I also have some of the older vinyl which is the much thinner, flimsier pressings. The problem was that VTF was riding too tail high and made the sound leaner with less bass with the older/thinner vinyl. The VPI cork mat on top of the platter did the trick for me. More bass and tonal balance across the board.
