Default $1,000 or less AV receiver…suggestions?

I have a very small t.v. listening space upstairs away from our main HT. My wife uses this t.v./area to watch HGTV, hockey and baseball games primarily. I'm looking for an inexpensive HT receiver to drive all Goldenear Aon bookshelf speakers. My budget is $1,000 or less. 99% basic HD tv, no 3D t.v. and 1% BlueRay movies. I want to route the HDMI signal through the receiver also. Basic 5.1 set up.

Your recommendations please (sorry, no Emotiva or Sony - bad past experiences ). I'm open to Denon, NAD, Yamaha, Cambridge Audio, etc.

I would also be open to "used" if a unit were in mint/like new condition.

Fire away…..
Thx!

I would recommend the NAD. I own the T757 which is around your budget, now the T758, and it sounds very good and have had no issues with it. I have had Yamaha, Onkyo and Denon, and sonically I would say they can't hold a candle to the NAD. Highly recommend it.

I bought a used Pioneer LX72 and I'm very happy with it. It's enough for the job I ask it to do.

The version of HDMI required will make a big difference. Since you do not need 3D, you can go with older receivers. With your budget on the used market, the options are really wide. I've been partial to Anthem, you can get a used higher end anthem for under that budget, or get a lower tier model and save quiet a bit.

I got a demo version of Cambridge Audio Azur 551R for a 1000 $ - it's probably less expensive in the US and I can highly recommend it. Very little gadgetry and great sound!

Denon X4000 for the top of the line Audyssey MultiEQ XT32 (Pro compatible I believe) which offers the best room EQ correction resolution in a consumer system.

It also has SubEQ which handles multiple subs and LFC which tries to prevent subwoofer vibrations from escaping to the next room/apartment.

You can always add better power amps if you need it with the pre-outs on this AVR.

It's under 1k now because the replacement model is on the way - that would be about 1.4k new but will support the new Dolby Atmos decoding. If you don't plan on using Atmos, I expect the X4000 is probably the best bang for the buck now.
