Huh?
Sooloos better than dcS?
WOW!
Sooloos is good but not anywhere close in league to dcS, especially Vivaldi......

One day I will find a dCS Dealer and have a listen to the Vivaldi. Do you have one?

G997,

If you have no interest in Meridian products and your sole purpose is to trash the company and it's users in a rude and condescending way, please do us all a favour by staying away from this sub forum.

Have a good day.

Howie

H

You have no idea what my "sole purpose" is..
So please tell me where I "trashed" M?
Having purchased Sooloos systems long before M bought them (I own 3), I have heard all the changes regarding the streaming parts of M and for sure it is not the best..
Just telling it like it is......if you don't agree thats OK. It gives us an idea of what your taste in gear is

BTW I have M skin in the game: 2 MS600's, 4 RM Twinstores, and a 818v2 as well as the Sooloos pieces

What's your take on the handling of metadata and file management? I held back, as you know, because I wasn't certain that would be happy with the fact I'd be buying into another closed "ecosystem."

What do feel is a better or has different critique for a digital music source?

How good the SE incarnation of DSP speakers are? No idea but will hopefully soon find out.

I will clarify my listening impressions a bit so you will understand where Vivaldi needs some work IMHO.

Vivaldi stack playing from it's own CD transport, YG speakers, boulder amps - awesome silver disc! Absolute state of the art.

861v8/ID41 Sooloos streaming through DSP8000 - awesome streaming! All the reference ingredients are all here.

Vivaldi playing USB from Macbook - Pretty good, but missing the expansive soundstage and with some distorsion compared to DCS silver disc transport. Not as quiet.

Vivaldi playing through ethernet from QNAP NAS - Pretty good, but now with more distorsion and listening fatigue than USB connection from Macbook.

This is my listening experience, YMMV. There was a VERY obvious difference between doing streaming/USB with Vivaldi vs. using it's own silver disc CD transport. And this is what sets Meridian apart IMHO, they are doing reference streaming quality now. DCS still have work to do with their USB/streaming SQ.

PS. Damn I swallowed the flamebait

I appreciate critics on Meridian, nothing is perfect is it? I do feel it would be better if the alternatives are mentioned and based on what criteria they are perceived beter or worse. Some might be in a different price league others simlar or lower, that is fine.
For years Sooloos and MDMS are the best you can get, now competiton is there and since to some peoples taste M is not changing very fast it is being criticised for that. I am not sure why as the performance is great, both SQ as UI.
For sure i like Meridian a lot, that is why i buy and enjoy it. Despite i find that a full blown M system, from source to DSP speaker is hard to beat, i also know some very good results with MDMS source via 818/ID41 to 3rd party amps and speakers. There is a huge supplier base out there, always something to find to your taste and budget. Hifi gear is a great hobby, all for the music experience.

g,

I have never implied that you do not own Meridian equipment.

It is the way you comment that I find a little objectionable. Phrases like "who cares?", "huh?", "wow!", "not nearly state of the art" all put in an unpleasant fashion in response to people's comments or questions is imho unnecessary, aggressive and unwarranted.

I think some decorum in the way you address people and issues would be worth considering.

Thanks

Howie.......I was getting the same impression. It is my hope that this is a communication error and not intentionally abrasive posts.

G997.......Your personal experiences with Meridian, Sooloos, or any other gear for that matter are of interest to all of us. Sharing information is how we learn from each other. Kindly remember that your opinions are valued but they are certainly not the final definitive answer to anyone except perhaps you. Please help us maintain a friendly atmosphere by posting in such a manner as you would appreciate being responded to yourself. Thanks for understanding.
