Default BDP-1 Error 9

I got this error last Thursday
I googled the error and the recommendation was to reseat the internal serial cable.
First I needed a T8 screwdriver which I luckily had
Then I had to undo 10 (wow!) screws
Unfortunately 4 would just not undo, which I knew about as I has previously attempted to update from v1 to v2 and given up on because of the jammed screws
I tried squirting penetrating oil and leaving the unit for a couple of days
Still no luck so I had to drill out the stuck screws
Once inside, I reseated the serial cable, > no change after switch back on again (yes i had removed the mains cable while working inside the unit)
Damn!
I reseated all the other cables > still no luck.
Finally I reseated the Compact Flash card > success!!!

Since I had now access to the innards, I reflashed the CF card with v2 (Manic Moose)
After using it, it found a new update (v 2.32) which I allowed it to install
This is the first update it found in over 8 years! (??)

So..
After all the about grief I can now connect the BDP-1 to my DAC using a USB cable (must buy a decent one) and play DSF files which I couldn't do before.
The UI has changed a lot!
I still prefer my iPad to connect via Soundirok though.
The Bryston UI is vastly improved in the device management area, not too sure about the player though, just looks different.

That's incredible that the Torx screws jammed up.
Did you really have to drill out the screws, or were you able to back them out with a screw extractor?

Tried everything as I didn't want to drill them out.
Actually, all I had to drill out was the head, I could stop drilling once a saw a metal ring become attached to the drill bit. I used progressively larger bits.
The body of the screws are still in the chassis, if I really want to, I can simply paint over the shiny exposed metal

Don't understand why 10 screws were necessary and why they had been so tightly screwed in

It's incredibly frustrating to find screws torqued that way, and it's just not necessary.

Tell me about it!
It should have been a 5 minute job
BTW I found some Bryston docs relating to updating to v2 and the Error 9 issue.
There were quite a few broken links within the docs, so I was apprehensive reflashing my CF card but I created a backup of what I started with just in case

I assume a decent USB cable will make a difference?
I have an Audioquest Diamond digital cable between another source and my DAC and that sounds great!

I have the BDP-1 Error 9 on mine and tried all the above, reseating cables, flashing disk, etc. Never could get the error to go away.

Looking at your profile I presume you scrapped it and went elsewhere?

No, it is in the box waiting and hoping it heals itself.

Why not contacting Bryston? They are really helpful.
If you did contact them, why isn't still working?
