The grills were off the 6T's. I didn't see much movement. If there was much distortion, I couldn't hear it. A bargain in my book.

I did meet Michael Kelly of Aerial on June 3 at a demo session, very nicely orchestrated by AVTherapy in Nashua NH (about 30 minutes north of Boston).
Thoroughly enjoyed speaking with him; highly approachable. We discussed the 6T and 7T. Michael has a preference for the dynamics of the 7T but acknowledges the 6T's have (slightly) better imaging (narrower profile design) which he demonstrated. Michael was great at explaining his design/build process. Truthfully, of the total time we spoke on and off during the evening, half was about speakers and half was on a variety of topics. Paraphrasing Michael's comparison of the 7T vs. 6T design: "The 7T's outperform the 6T's in all regards except imaging where the 6T has an advantage due to its smaller profile. The 7T's have better dynamics and more powerful and fuller low frequencies as the chief differences. However, at about 1/2 the enclosure volume, the 6T does a very good job" Purchased the 6T's in their rose-walnut ('rosenut') finish. The metallic black (very subtle metallic), modeled after a Ferrari paint color according to Michael, was also compelling. The 6T's were modestly more budget friendly, and for our listening space, a preferred form factor. |

Congrats on your purchase!
I've always enjoyed talking with Michael Kelly whenever I needed information on my Aerial Acoustic 8 speakers. He's a joy to talk to and you really get a sense of his passion for the craft he has made his career.

I saw the 6T speakers in person (but did not hear) today at a local shop. I was on the way to a meeting and didn't have time for more than a quick peek
I like the form factor for my living room space and plan to head back and give them a listen. For a variety of reasons my 2 channel space needs speakers with a smaller footprint and I have been thinking about putting monitors on stands but, in many cases, they are equally impactful visually and all things considered I want to try out full(er) ranged speakers. |

The Aerial 6T's arrived yesterday; delivered by AVTherapy (Nashua NH) with a small twist - AVT picked up at Aerial Acoustics (also in the Boston metro area) then driven to our home. Ordered in rosewood, Aerial mistakenly loaded the black versions on board - discovered before unpacking. So, a quick call to Aerial and they dispatched the rosewood versions which arrived less than one hour later. The 'delivery guy' turned out to be a senior person at Aerial - with them since the beginning- and so I received some expert unpacking help and set up tips as a bonus.
Look great, sound better. |

How did the black look? I probably can't take another wood shade color in my room so am curious about the black. Please update the thread as you get more used to the speakers - they are on my very short short list. |

So far the 6T's are a big improvement over the Wharfedale Jade 5's which they replaced. Most apparent is (in order) detail exposed in tracks that we have listened to many times, low notes - the Wharfedales put out sound at low frequencies, the Aerials put out notes, and most apparent - sound staging. Impressive to have this experience in our home. Overall, a big improvement, visually and sonically. Of course, different price points. The Aerials are just over 1/2 the volume of the Jade 5's, which makes it even better. |

If you have a chance, can you update us on your impressions of the 6T, now that you have had them for awhile? Plus, what are you driving them with?

The sound at all listening levels is excellent. When I have the time, I will set up in the best listing spot (speakers are about 12 ft. apart, about 3 ft. in front of the back wall and 3 ft. from the side walls) and enjoy the sound staging. Listening primarily to 44.1 FLAC or Apple lossless and some limited hi-res material, played via JRiver/mac though an OPPO HA-1. The speakers are currently powered by a diminutive (half chassis) Naim NAP100, which puts 75W/channel into 4 ohms. This little guy, intended for some DynAudio bookshelves in another room, is doing very well; the (expected) shortcoming is during high dynamic range recordings (say a well recorded symphony played at room-filling levels), when the full dynamics aren't achieved. This represents only about 5% of our listening; the system is used extensively by all members of the family. I did demo a Gato integrated amp (also distributed by Aerial Acoustics). Very cool Danish design, plenty of power (250W into 4 ohms), but the price point to the speakers was not a great match - might be better matched to the 7T's. Great design though if you like unconventional looks. But that level of power brought out the desired symphonic levels and 'punch'. May also demo an NAD M22 from my dealer to see what the Hypex NCore sound is all about. Keeping my eyes open for a good McIntosh! Preferably a stereo chassis. So, I might switch in/out some electronics but the 6T's are keepers. |

There's just the small annoyance of affordability. Having said that though, I'm seeing quite a few speakers out now that are performing well above their pay grade. These Aerials. The Bryston's. I'm sure there are others. Good news for all of us.
