I have been thinking about replacing my Mac mini running Core with a NUC and ROCK. I too use Roon Core to connect to other Roon Endpoints on my network, so was wondering if there are any real advantages to migrating from my current setup to a NUC/ROCK solution. My Mac mini is relatively new with a 2.6GHz i5 and 8GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM and 260GB of flash storage for the OS. I use my 16TB Synology 916+ NAS for storage.

I guess the only advantages would be found in any performance/reliability improvements in ROCK vs. Core. My hi-res library is just over 1TB...and I have yet to see any performance issue with the iMac running Core (the mini is headless..and is dedicated to Roon).

I'm awaiting Roon's Nucleus boxes as these might be better suited to keeping in the same room with the rest of the system (hopefully quieter than an i7 NUC) and maybe offering a higher quality power supply and other sonically better bits. I too have been using a MacMini and only occasionally experience either dropouts or stoppage of play with my Roon library (using a QNAP NAS). Everything is wired to CISCO smart switch including the NAS, MacMini, and dCS Network Bridge.

NUC is a great solution, I am buying a second one for my office system.
