Default How much does a linear foot of LP's weigh?

I am going to have a storage solution built for my modest LP collection and I was wondering if there was a standard of how many records per foot and how much they weigh with jacket, cover etc... I am at work and I will measure when I get home, but was wondering if these numbers were out there.
Thanks in advance.

From a search on another site: "Assuming 70 LPs per foot and 1/2 pound per record, you're looking at about a hundred pounds" (for three feet of LPs)
\
Another comment: " weighed a sampling of LPs a few years ago and came up with an average of 0.45 lbs apiece

My own measurements range from 80 LPs per foot with NO gatefold LPs in the bunch, down to 65 LPs with a number of gatefold or double albums in the count.

Another line.. A foot of LPs weighs 40lbs. (from my memory that is too low, more like 50lbs)

Ten years back, on another site, when I calculated my 6 unit tall shelving I arrived at 250 pounds/sq ft weight pressing on floor. (do not ask me how I arrived at that value)

One big problem is records vary tremendously. Particularly gatefold covers for one LP really use up space. With say 1/3 or even 1/4 of the foot weighed, gatefold, the weight is reduced a LOT.

Just for fun (inquiring minds and all that) I just put a random foot of albums from my shelves on my bathroom scale. With a mix of single, gatefold, double and heavy vinyl albums, it weighed 42 lbs.

Awesome information. Thanks. I had figured around 25kg per foot. Not sure why I was mixing imperial and metric systems, but I figured 250 grams per LP including packaging and 100 lp's per linear foot. So, around 50 lbs per foot seems reasonable and consistent with the other observations. The 100 LP's would be absent any gatefolds etc. So, for the purpose of estimating my needs I will assume 50 LP's per foot and 50 pounds per foot. A conservative estimate in this regard is likely to serve me better.

I think it also depends on the amount of crud in the grooves.

For what it’s worth, here’s my storage: ~900 albums of all sizes and variety, loosely packed so you don’t have to fight to get something out, with all plastic sleeves removed. 14 linear feet with about 900 albums, so an average of 64 per foot.

For actual use. best if the LPs are not tight. Loose enough to pull one out and the ones next to it don't 'close up'. ON the other side of too loose is the LPs always flop to one side. there is a just right loose vs tight where the LPs stand up straight, but one is easy to remove... One way to get this is make the foot long, two foot long row tight, then remove three LPs. Just right.
Shelving which is three feet long is just too long without a divider. The records will flop no matter what you do, other than really tight.

That's for the disk only, not the sleeve or cardboard cover.

If you have a record collection, take one linear foot off your present shelf, lay it on your bathroom scale and weigh it.

Easy enough.
