Shindo Aurieges phono stage vs A23 Hommage?
I am curious if anyone tried both approaches and what would be the recommendation to chose between the two excellent ones? Most interested in the sound but any other considerations would be helpful(the dedicated phono stage gives you more flexibility including 78 etc).
I have an Aurieges, Montille and VPI Prime on the way with Ortofon Cadenza Black. Currently using A23 step-up. Last edited by Sancho22; 05-24-2015 at 02:45 PM. |

This can work, depending on your system approach.

How about a combination of Aurieges with phono + a Hommage T1?
Would this combo be "competitive" with a Monbrison or Masseto sound wise (budget is perhaps similar on the pre-owned market)? Would a dedicated Aurieges phone stage (very rare) work best with the Aurieges or even with the Monbrison or Masseto? |

OK let me try this way - if I have a chance to buy a used T1 and add to my Aurieges with Phono is that comparable to say an upgrade to Monbrison or Masseto?
I found some opinions about this but not that much - tanks! |

Unless you are using the Shindo cartridge - a modified Ortofon SPU - or a very similar low impedance, low-output cartridge then the MC input will not be ideally suited with respect to both gain and loading. To use an MC cartridge in most cases it is much better to use an appropriate SUT whether that is an A23 T1, T2, or Homage, or something else such as Lundahl or Bob's.
So, long story short YES you are better off with the appropriate MC step-up transformer that plugs into your MM input. Once this critical component is in place, then by all means feel free to move up the line as you, and your pocketbook, desire. Last edited by junker; 11-03-2015 at 12:05 AM. |

Thanks. I should have taken my time and add some more information.
I do have an A23 (the one which matches the D103) and it works pretty well with the D103 which is on my TD124/3009 combo. I also have the VPI Prime with Ortofon Cadenza Black. It also works nicely with the A23 SUT. I do think the T1 could add some nice sonic improvement and would have two nice set ups - but only one MM input. I will then need to switch back and forth (not that big of a deal). I think you are right, first step should be the T1 then maybe a Masseto or VR. Thanks for the advice. |

For the Denon DL103 a T2 would be a more appropriate match.

Might sound better but the A23 "base" model (one of the two) was actually specifically built for the Denon 103 - at least based on the Auditorium as quell as many other sites...

In my system, going from the standard A23 (Denon) SUT to the T2 was a huge improvement. In my case, it was with the Tsd-15. I would be quite shocked if you didn't feel the same with your 103.

Thanks guys. I think I will keep the basic A23 for the D103 /TD124 and get the T1 for the Cadenza/VPI combo.
