Maybe it's time for an 801, again

Sadly, the 801 didn’t sell very well so it is unlikely to ever come back.

I think the footprint of the 801 was the problem. It just took too much space. Otherwise, an incredible speaker. I do not think they will go in that direction. Most probably it will be an optimised D3. But what I would live to see from B&W is an active or semi-active 800 with dsp and room correction software.

@4music Thank you!

IMO 801 looks ugly, like subwoofer with turbine head and twitter...

Me, I am waiting for updated 804, same elegant looking and full of /B&W magic/ newest technologies

Personally I think the 804D3 should have a larger midrange FST Driver like they did previously... it’s why I went for the 805D3 which doesn’t sound as ‘lean’ ...I’ve had 804S in years gone by and liked them

I 100% agree with this. I decided to keep my 804D2 for this very reason. They could have kept the 6" driver but since the 803D3 was going to have a 5" driver they couldn't (understandably) have the 804D3 with a 6" driver upstage it.

I listened to the 804D3 and 803D3 extensively and didn't find that much to separate them (apparently the same with B&W as the 804D3 was the ONLY D3 to see a price increase). The differences/improvements really don't shine until you get to the 802D3. Although, I really much prefer the 803D3 foot print. I hope the D4's address some of these shortcomings with the 804 and 803.

Were somehow explained /by B&W/ why 804D3 came out with significantly smaller "primary" drive? I think 5-inch midrange vs 6-inch is HUGE, even made from all-new material and technologies
Don't get me wrong, I love 804D3, and those would be my dream speakers if only D4 would not be so close, coming. Meanwhile, enjoying my CM9 S1 with pair ASW 10CM

I'm hearing late-summer 21 for D4s...
