Default Big storm and no power

Incredibly loud thunder woke me from a dead sleep last night at 2:00 AM. The rain was coming down hard, and then the power went out. I fell back asleep and woke at 5:15 AM to find the power still off. My refrigerator temperature got up to 41 degrees so I started the generator. I can't let my chilled and frozen food spoil, and I must have power for my well pump for the toilet. Hope the utility power returns soon. Thank goodness for generators.

Its amazing how inconvenient it is when you lose power. Glad to hear you have a generator - makes it so much better!

We switched over from a large portable to a natural gas powered permanent back-up generator about 8 years ago. Nice to know we are protected even when we are away from home.

With my cable modem, wireless router and sonicTransporter all connected to a battery back-up device I don't have to worry about reboot initiiating in those few seconds before the generator automatically kicks in.

That is a true statement...from Florida up thru the Carolinas we get Thunderstorms that are truly epic and manifest themselves in very short periods of time...

Well, it's still raining but the thunder and lightning have subsided. The utility company finally restored the power about 7:30 AM. Having a backup generator and transfer switch are an essential for Florida living. Everything is electric in modern homes. When the power is out it's like living in a dark monolith.

We rarely get this type of weather in the Pacific Northwest - I can only think how important it is to have whole home Surge Protection.

Florida rain storms can be intense! Glad the food was ok

It's weird in Florida though, sometimes the power just goes out for no apparent reason at all during bright sunshine... and then a huge thunderstorm rolls through and everything is fine. During the last hurricane, power was out for 5 days but just for about 16 houses in my subdivision. There were houses literally across the street that were back on in 24 hours, strange!

I'm going a different direction this month and installing a couple of Tesla Powerwalls and 10 additional solar panels to being the total up to 41. Supposedly (theoretically) I will never lose power again.
