A little known "Ella & Marilyn fact". Mocambo, the top jazz club in LA in 50's, would not book Ella as she was black (don't we have a lovely history ). Marilyn Monroe called the owner and told him that if he would book Ella she would sit front & center every night Ella appeared. He booked Ella and MM showed up every night, which drew a sold-out house. Ella said she never had to play the small-time clubs again after that.

Very good concert.
This is a nice album.
I appreciate Marsalis even more after having seen him live.

Listening again.
We have fond memories of that concert.

Very enthusiastically played album.
Reginald Veal (b) and Jef "Tain" watts (d) are excellent.

This is good jazz!

Recorded in '96, the current recording techniques are better, but it's decent enough to appreciate the abundance of ideas and the interplay, especially on the trio pieces.
