The Roon Server is purpose built, but from understanding you need to install a drive, then comes what type of drive, and of course if you want quiet, use of a linear power supply, now your somewhere around $3000 - |

Looks like I can do a Nucleus (not Plus) for $1400 and a 2TB SSD Drive for about $250 and that should give me what I need. What better alternatives are there for under $2000?

Small Green Computer
You should look at Small green computer. Built as well or better than Nucleus and cheaper too. Quite a few people have compared the SGC with the Nucleus and went with the SGC. The SGC sonicorbiter i5 is what I have ordered and will relieve my iMac from running the Roon core. The i5 is only $895.00 and consumes 9 watts of power. Connect it to a NAS or add your own HDD/SSD.
