Replaced stock MHDT caps in the Orchid DAC, a CDE (Cornell Dubilier Electronics) WPP series is made special for MHDT. Similar to "Orange Drop" caps per designer Juin at MHDT.

New caps are Mundorf 2.2uF 450v EVO Silver/Gold/Oil caps. 200hrs required to OPEN up and (update2) reportedly 300-400 to fully settle in.

Nice improvement. Smooth, open, retaining detail. Musical.

New Mundorf SGO caps (White) located 2:00pm.

Even better after 100hrs break-in time. 100hrs to go.

cpcat, nice.
Bet it sounds nice. AN DACs are what lead me to research NOS DACs to begin with.

If you store your photos on another online site like flickr or google photos or iCloud etc you simply reply to a post here, click the image icon (mountain looking object just below the right curved arrow - you see the mountain image object while making a reply) and insert the actual http link to your photo hosted elsewhere.

The result is the link simply inserts the image you have hosted elsewhere on another service provider site, within your reply. Hope this helps.

Ok-hope this works.

Didn’t work-not sure what I’m doing wrong, all that showed up is the little white square at top left.

Ok I subscribed-now I can post photos.

Audio Note kits Dac 4.1 LE
NOS AD1865 R2R DAC chip and CS8414 digital receiver
5687 analog output stage with “triple C-core” output transformers
6x5GT rectifier and EL82 regulator -currently use NOS Tungsol and Telefunken respectively
Have replaced the 5687’s with E182CC’s- Philips Miniwatt NOS Holland
I’ve had this for over 6 yrs and still love it.

The first photo was the day it arrived -if you look closely you can see the digital input transformers were knocked over during shipping.
Luckily, it was an easy fix-I just reset them upright in their little putty platforms.

Very nice. Never seen under the hood of that model AN before. A lot going on inside there.

The MHDT DAC definitely benefits from some extended break-in time into 200-300hrs. If you change the caps, expect it to take a while. Liking the Mundorf cap upgrade but must say the stock caps are not bad either.

Default What are your thoughts now?

Hi all,
I've spent several hours reading through this thread and have been very interested to read everyone's information. So I'm considering it the mhdt Orchid. Gentlemen, But what are your thoughts now after you've had this unit for a year or so?

Pleased with mine so far.

Change a tube and change the sound. Nice!

Mine is sensitive to different cable changes too (in my system).

MHDT manufacturer response and support has been good so far. A buddy had an issue with his older unit and response and resolution was fairly immediate.

After purchase, three friends did too. They are enjoying theirs.
