I have owned 2 Monster Canbles and the quality is decent enough but what pisses me off about them is the RCA connections are so damn tight putting them on or takig them off is a serious risk to my gear. I have a digial coax that I still use between my Blu-ray player and SSP as my SSP does not have HDMI and I had used a component cable which was replaced with a Kimber HDMI from my Blu-ray player to my TV. I bought those two Monster cables at the same time years ago and based on the connectors I have never bought another Monster cable since and never plan to again.
That's my experience, limited as it is. |

You might add one more choice: One or more of the products in my system uses Monster internally.

I used to have Monster back in the 90's as well. I didn't have any problem with them, but I never really compared any of their higher models with other manufacturers. I will say that is seems they became more of a "marketing" company with a million different models, pro lines, heck they even made batteries and battery chargers. I know several audiophiles that were somewhat turned off by their strategy to branch out into tons of different product lines feeling that they weren't focused on high quality audio any longer. That being said, I always thought they were well made, high quality cables and definitely a step up from the free stuff without spending a ton of money. Those dang turbine connectors though were a little much...I pulled a couple of RCA jacks out of the back of a Classe preamp with those things!

I found Monster to be a good upgrade from the cables that come with your gear (in the box)... if you couldn't afford the really good stuff... IMO.

Monster cables probably provide a pretty good value for the average guy with a decent mid-fi system, but certainly do not appeal to the real Audiophile. The reason IMHO many wince when you mention the name is due to the stupid greedy antics of Noel Lee, the founder and CEO, who thought he owned all rights to the common word 'monster" and went after numerous small business owners who dared to use the word in their name. He would sic his attorneys on them, threaten to sue, and then follow through with whatever expense it required, thus intimidating them into giving up. Many like myself were angered by his arrogant attitude (I wrote him several times) and will never again buy any of his products, quality or lack thereof not withstanding. He shot himself in the foot! Since then, he seems to have lost the battle (I now see many other "Monster" companies) and I hope many sales.

As for myself I'm running a Moster Cable HTS2500, which is a power center, and multiple IC's in my HT set up. And yes the IC's are tight but I've never damaged any gear because of it. What I do is give the cable ends a little twist during plugging in or removal and they come off pretty easy.

Don, calm down, I am not intending to offend you. I said I thought it was clear because I dont think anyone would argue that Monster Cable is not a successful company. Success and product quality are not one in the same.
