Are you going to use the Accuphase DF-65 crossover?

That will give you a 4 way crossover--three ways for the mains plus one more for the subwoofers you always add to the systems.

You know you should!

You will need SIX Accuphase A-250s, of course you already knew that!

I'm sorry, it's just hard for me to believe that the SE 17s with the Accuphase system would be so much better than the Burmester/SF Aida system that one would spend how many hundreds of thousands of $$$$$ to get there. There's no question that it may be a more technologically advanced loudspeaker and perhaps the best that Sonus has developed but light years ahead to justify the time and expense? Can't see it. Even though the caveats about the "super speakers" have been well laid out in this thread, I think you'd have to be there in order to advance sound quality to the point that the Burmester/Aida system would be a distant second place.

Hi Ivan, so the A-250 allows for bridge operation so that it can provide more power
(400 Watts at 8 ohms or 800 Watts at 4 ohms), but also bi-amp, for splitting
high and lows, which I originally thought was the target. With the potential of having
400 Watts on tap, it sounds tempting to go that route.

How would one know at what point in time, money and space you would no longer reach an improvement without actually testing it in your home/space? If there is an improvement, at what point in that time/space and money is it actually worth it to the individual? That question right there is going to be different for every person and only that person can determine the value. I don't really know if there is a good answer and I definitely know that there is no right or wrong answer. What I do know is that it's going to cost a lot of each of those 3 parameters to find out the answer! So how far is the man willing to go?

I agree. However, Buck's comment about the Aida vs. the Se17 is basically like saying an endpoint has been reached and useless to go any further. I disagree with that. I think the Se17 is Ivan's ultimate speaker, if he wants to go for it. It will be significantly better than the triamped Aida and it will be with his favorites amps, the A-250. Now compared to this potential system, I have a meager system, but I had a clearly defined endpoint. I knew what I wanted to achieve and I did it. I'm happy. The question with Ivan is will he ever be happy unless he has an ultimate system for him. For many his Aida Burmester system would be the ultimate, but the Aida is competitive with my Alexx and an older design. I don't think it to be an ultimate system. The Accuphase/Se17 would be. I thought we were talking seriously about ultimate systems, within reason of course.

This is clearly all opinion but one way to find out is to get several A-250s and top of the line Accuphase pre and put them into the Aida system. I tend to think the result will be astonishing as the Accuphase and associated pre-amp, at least to me, are a big step up sonically and musically speaking and then some from the Burmester amps, more soul, more musical. The Burmester gear is still world class and I like the match with the Aidas so not bashing by any stretch of the imagination....

***In the proposed conifg, if you are still running the Burmester power conditioner, then remove it as it matches the amps in how it shapes power for their best function and put in a full Shunyata TRITON v3 and TYPHON QR stack. That alone is a full system upgrade, trust me, Adam and others who have had our eyes opened wide by this combo's ability to upgrade an entire system's performance!

One other thing...in the above idea, the Grandioso stack and TT stay, up their usage, combined to 100% as true world class sources for that system. You might have to substitute for the existing phono preamp as I seem to recall that may have been Burmester too(?)....
