Well, I'm about to come into a Shindo Monbrison (YAY!!!) and my present analog front end consists of:

Thorens TD-124 mki mounted in a multi-layered James Campbell Baltic birch plinth, SME 3012R 12" tonearm, and a retipped by Soundsmith Denon DL-103 in a Uwe African ebony body

Thorens TD-124 mkii with a Ortofon RMG 212 tonearm & an Ortofon 90th Anniversary SPU. Presently in a stock plinth so this needs to be optimized.

Garrard 301 grease bearing with a soon to arrive SME 3012 Series II. I'll probably move the 90th Anniversary SPU to this TT.

Linn LP-12 with a Ittok VII tonearm, Lingo I power supply, Koetsu Urushi Vermillion cartridge and a Woodsong Audio cocobola plinth

Linn LP-12 with an Ittok VII tonearm and Shelter 90x cartridge

Lenco L75 with a Mirko plinth and his upgraded Lenco bearing. I plan to acquire a Schick 12" tonearm to rotate between the Lenco and the Garrard.

Hi, here is my recently acquired Garrard 301 rebuilt by Steve Dobbins. Restoration included micro polished spindle, kokomo bearing, etc. Included Copper Platter mat. 12" Reed 2a W/ebony arm, Sound Smith Denon 103 in African Ebony body.

Plinth: Custom built in a constrained layered damping method, including aluminum plate, solid wood, 1" man made slate, 1" Baltic birch plus proprietary materials. Exterior veneered in Quartered figured Anigre with Satin lacquer finish.
Ebony arm board. Stillpoints feet with risers support plinth. Loricraft 401 motor controller

Frankly at first I thought it a little lacking in bass, but after some playing time and setting the crossovers to level on the Tannoys, it seems to be just right. I may try it with my Montille.

Hi J - I have a 301 and 401, and both of them had Kokomo bearing kits. You should pull the bearings and inspect the bottom of the spindle for wear. There is a known issue with the hard ceramic balls in the Kokomo mk1 (without the plastic disc) where the ball bores into the softer steel of the spindle. Google fpr plenty of examples, especially on Pinkfish.

If you have a mk1, you may see a dimple in the base of the spindle which should not be there. Either way, if you have the mk1, I would suggest replacement with the Exact bearing.

FWIW - I have swapped out the Kokomo for the exact, and it is not quite as nice but better than the stock bearings. I have read the Exact is better than the Mk2 version, as the plastic disc sucks life out.

The treatment is 7-12" diameter, and ~180gm.
