I'll compare them tonight.

I do have to say with some time breathing in the glass the Envy evolved and the sweetness went down...

Ok They are very similar but the port barrels used for aging the Envy clearly defines it vs. the classic Hayden.

Actually, I liked both and will continue to do so depending on my mood.

Now on to the Jefferson's!

Thanks for the report back and good to know - I will give the Envy a try sometime down the road. I haven't done any comparing with the Jefferson's yet - did try it alone for the 2nd time over the weekend though and it is excellent!

The Envy has arrived via UPS and I'll be trying it tonight while listening to some SACDs.

So I did a blind tasting of:

Jefferson Reserve
Jefferson 18yr
Pappy's 15yr

Never had Jefferson before

Pappy's had a distinct, though subtle, nose of burnt damp charcoal.

The two Jefferson's were similar with the 18yr being more involved, deeper in character and showing more layers of flavor.
On this night I picked the Pappy's 15 as my favorite.
On another night I'm not sure which I'd favor, Pappy's or the Jefferson 18
My wife picked the Jefferson 18 saying the Pappy's left a burning after taste.

I do have to say the Jefferson Reserve is really nice and might be my favorite at that 35-45 price point.
I'm glade to have both Jefferson's in my bourbon collection.

Have you tried the Pappy 20 compared to the 15? Some folks like the 15 better....I have only had the 20 and it is a many slpendored thing.

Just the opposite for me Doug - need to get a hold of the 20 sometime! I really do like the 15 extremely well though and it's tough to pick anything else as my favorite at this point...the Jefferson 18 is pretty much at the same level though!

Yes I have the Pappy 20 as well.

I usually go for the 15 although I can't say I like one over the other

I found a bottle of Black Maple Hill 21 year in the wine cellar a few weeks ago
Man this bourbon is the best!
Smooth, evolving layers of flavor and a real smooth finish, no burn sensation (I drink bourbon straight) like you get (from Pappy's 20 especially)
For me this is the best aged bourbon I have.

PS Sorry for the rotated photo. For some reason when I send them to my laptop from my iPhone and then attach they rotate 90 degrees. Admin can't duplicate the issue
