Default Review MC 611s.

Forgot to write the most important part of this review. Eh hem (as I clear my throat and start to speak authoritatively), "This reviewer highly recommends you audition McIntosh Labs MC611 quad balanced solid-state monoblock amplifiers within your system. Enjoyed them so much within my sound system that I'm buying the review pair!"

WAIT

Bought them first, and then reviewed them.

Plot twist!

As always, in the end, what really matters is that you...

Enjoy the Music,

Steven R. Rochlin

Entertaining but not really a review, glad he is enjoying them. While I read the first couple of paragraphs I thought substitute horse power instead of watts and change the name of the amp from 611 to Corvette Z06 and it could go in a car magazine. When he was talking about replacing capacitor’s after a decade , I realized my MC501’s are from 2009 , ie almost a decade old of use and still sound fantastic to me with powerful bass , superb imaging do I have to change power capacitors in a year , answer they are still going strong. I am sure the 611 are even better than my 501’s .

501s are great amps.

Much better than 601 on everything, even at 15 minutes of running. Macintosh seems to deliver exactly what it says in their promotion. I let them play day and night for a week and I'll get back to you. Excuse my english. Claude

Default Review MC 611s.

Very intriguing amp to me.

I’d love to audition a pair, but here’s my gripe about trying to audition any single component in a system at a dealer....let’s say I was contemplating a particular set of speakers and a dealer happens to have them in their showroom. How can I objectively evaluate the speakers when the whole system is new to me (remember, there’s the amp, the preamp, the source, the DAC, the cables, the room acoustics, etc...).

Switch gears for a second, I want to evaluate brand ABC preamp. It’s in the same system as above. If it’s horrible, is it the amp? The speakers?

Point is, every single component in the whole chain, from power cords, power conditioners, to amps and speakers, influences the sound. How do you effectively evaluate just one component in this cauldron of sound?

Little disappointment.
There is a slight buzz when I approach 6 inch amp.
Both. I changed the ac wire, I plugged directly into the wall, same thing. Accordent to you, is it normal?

That is likely the transformer, send it back and ask for a new amp. , it should be dead quiet.

+1 - had the same a while back with a 205 Mac amp and my dealer had no hesitation in changing it over for a new one
