Funny to read the MC75 is discontinued when it is still on the website AND two were just produced for me a few weeks ago.

The built in sub amp in your speaker should allow for more than enough volume from either the MC275 or MC75’s, if that’s the concern.

The tube amplifier provides a more harmonically rich sound, better micro dynamics and better 3 dimensional imaging IMHO.

Unless your speakers are incredible pigs , which they aren’t you will do fine with a MC275. You can always add another if needed.

I just chose an MC275 VI over an MC152; also with a separately amped sub. The MC152 is a fine amp, but I was quick to prefer the warmth and soundstage of the MC275. Big picture though, I would never chose an amp in any way other than listening through my own speakers. Even sifting through the other advice on this thread, it's easy to see that some of us are predisposed to solid state, others to tubes. I'd suggest bringing an MC275 home for a few days. (I'm pretty sure you'll love it.) Good luck!

Do you have an idea how much time it takes to change the tubes of a C1100

Don’t know but shouldn’t take any longer than C2300/C500 both of which are very easy to swap out tubes, both of which I owned in the past and bith benefited from tube swap. However, I have absolutely no desire to swap out the stock tubes in my C1100. Simply not necessary IMO. The stock C1100 is a flat out winner and the best preamp I’ve ever owned.

However most dealers don't have a variety of current Mac demo amps just setting on the shelf.

I can't speak to "most", but I would be surprised if a Mac dealer did not have an MC275.

If I was surprised, I would go to Best Buy--my local branch has one (set up in a configuration almost sure to persuade a person to buy something else).

If I was surprised again, I would still not drop serious coin on stereo gear without a home audition or seven day return privilege.

I don't know about a MC275 but in most instances, especially regarding expensive loudspeakers, this is not possible. My dealer for example has two 1.25KW's in their main system in the store. These things weigh in at 157 lbs apiece. They charge about 80 dollars per hour per person for installation. It would be unrealistic for me to have them move two 1.2KW's (147 lbs) out of the way and haul two 1.25's up my stairs for a demo. In addition there is the question of "Do you box them up"? Same for the MC275's. Do you box them up and then unbox them? It's a big deal to haul around very expensive equipment and they are totally responsible for it if it is damaged and hauling it around out of the box is very dangerous.

I am seriously considering 1.25KW's to replace my 1.2's but I will not ask for an audition. Far too impractical.
