House Disaster Translates to New Steve Blinn Rack

Well, it's been a helluva few weeks. Water damage from simultaneous leaks in dishwasher hose, hot water pipe (in wall and under slab) and HVAC in attic of my townhome - how could all three happen at once for Pete's Sake? I've spent the last 10 days with 20 dehumidifiers and fans doing their thing but full mitigation requires the removal of ceilings in two rooms, three walls, and hardwood flooring on both upstairs and downstairs floors and staircase. Pack out of my furniture to off-site storage begins tomorrow followed by demolition, fixing the plumbing, reconstruction, cleaning and bringing the furniture back - a three to four week process with a total cost of about $50,000. Thank God for insurance and a low deductible.

It also means that I have to completely disassemble my hi fi and put it in my master bedroom for the time being - neither was touched by the water damage but I don't trust the contractor to move or store my babies. So while I endure this homeowner hell, and knowing I'll eventually have to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, I thought it might be a good idea to move from my makeshift audio set up (which is pretty horrible) to a dedicated audio rack from Steve Blinn. I needed to do this anyway, might as well do it now and get it over with. Ordered this rack last night.

Chris... I'm real sorry to hear this; we actually had a similar event last year when Rich's fish tank decided to let go (2nd story). It did about $30k of damage.

Chris, sorry to hear of your trouble. I can certainly sympathize as we had extensive water damage in our dining room ceiling some years ago. Between tearing out the ceiling, removing all the mold and two weeks of fans to thoroughly dry out it was a nightmare. Hang in there, it will get better.
At least you have a new, high quality rack to look forward to.

Wow, sorry to hear of this happening. I had water in my finished basement a few times. One from fridge tube in kitchen above, one from power failure where Sump Pump did not operate causing flood. This was a $10K damage/insurance
claim. I have since bought a generator, but still refuse to put any audio in the basement. I set up a second system, and actually use the (once was a) dining room. My main setup is in the (once was a) living room. I am especially concerned about the smaller system, because the kids bathroom is above it. I keep up on the caulking there, as the kids seem to leave water on the floor.

Well sorry about all that Chris, that is tuff and for me talks some wine a lot to get through that kinda crap at times.

But at least you have a nice rack and great system and know one got hurt right.

Thanks all - it does pretty much suck but in the great scheme of things it's really not all that bad. I honestly didn't want to start a pity party for myself, just wanted to give myself a good excuse to buy the rack. Because I think we all appreciate a nice rack. ; ) Let the jokes and inappropriate photos begin.

Did you customize the rack at all?
