Hi Bud, I would argue that happens for other components on the same line as all reference Hydra's containing NIC's. Just be aware that Cyclops and Typhon do not have NIC for the ground line. Triton, Talos and Hydra AV uses three NIC's Live, Neutral and Ground.

3. Caelin made a description on how to wire a quadplex, search. Then connect the Typhon to any free outlet on the quadplex.

Now obviously the lower end models do have less MPD's and smaller or no NIC's to begin with. The current in Triton passes the three larger NIC's both inbound (current draw) and outbound (feedback from connected components). Then there is the inline 2 MPD's. So you won't get a Triton+Typhon out of a Hydra AV+Typhon, but you will receive the same type of benefits.
If one runs the Typhon with other than the Triton -- for instance, I have and am delighted with my new Hyrda AV -- then what's the dealio with the umbilical cord?

The umbilical cord is just a shorter than stock power cable. As mentioned, the Typhon was originally designed to go with the Triton, and I guess they felt it would either be on top, under, or beside, the Triton. I seem to remember Caelin saying the shorter cord is better for the Typhon, but I might be mistaken.

The umbilical comes in various flavors; a low cost version, and different Zitron models up to the Anaconda. The low cost version uses the special port on the Triton, but the others use a regular outlet. That is why you can just plug the Typhon into the wall, or an outlet on your AV. I believe your best performance comes from using the regular outlet version.

The umbilical to the Triton is only recommended to be used if you're using all outlets from my recollection. Otherwise, you plug it into a spare outlet. So likewise on a Hydra AV, you just use an outlet to connect it.

Not sure whether you can buy the shorter umbilicals with US power plugs though, or if you'd need a regular length one.

Yes. I think we are talking semantics here. I am referring to 'umbilical' as the cord used to connect to the Typhon from either a Hydra, or a wall outlet. This can be the cord designed to use the umbilical port on the Triton, a slightly shorter power cord created for this purpose, or a 'normal' power cord. The latter two will use an unused outlet on a Hydra, or a wall outlet.

These are the umbilical choices available, and I will get the Anaconda.

Cool. Thanks guys. I was thinking the umbilical cord would be discounted, or priced into the Typhon or the Triton. And I was thinking that scheme would mean it was basically one fewer expensive power cords one would need to buy. But upon inspection, those umbilical cords look fully priced so that kind of knocks the wind out of that sail. I don't question the value one receives for the umbilical cord -- that's not where I'm coming from.

What's Shunyata view on USB cables? I notice digital cables listed as part of the product range but no USB cable is mentioned...

We have just built our first USB cable. It is called the VENOM USB. It will be announced at CES LAS VEGAS next week. It will offer exceptional performance at a reasonable price. Details will be on the website next week when we unveil a brand new website.

Also to be revealed at the show will be the HYDRA DPC-6. A reference conditioner designed specifically for digital, computer based audio systems.

And we will be doing live demonstrations of the new ALPHA SERIES power cables. We will do actual power analyzer tests and listening comparisons.

The full ALPHA SERIES concept will be announced which includes three cables that are specifically tuned for different types of components.

- ALPHA DIGITAL
- ALPHA ANALOG
- ALPHA HC (high current)

Greetings Caelin,
I am sure that with CES immediately around the corner, you are very busy. I would like to speak on behalf of all of your loyal fans, supporters, and user addicts (I am in that last group!) on this form and ask you, when you have a moment or two, if you could please give us some more details on these new products. For example, (Alpha Digital excluded, as we all know about that one by now) how are the Analog and HC cables tuned? How are they different from one another? What are the specifics on the HYDRA DPC-6? Again, when and if you have a free moment (please don't stress!), we would all like to hear from you about these new products!
Thank you in advance,
Rob
