Default Question, request and maybe a challenge for mr. Caelin Gabriel.

Goodday mr. Gabriel,

I’m in the market for a phonocable.
Yes, i’m going vinyl.
It has been a long time, 30 years or something, but the seed has been sowed and something beautiful is blooming.

I would very much like to purchase a Shunyata phonocable, i’m thinking Alpha.
My turntable is the EAT (European Audio Team) C-Sharp.
It is a wonderful turntable and very popular in Europe.
It has a 5 pin tonearm output.

I don’t see any Shunyata phonocables on the website with 5 pin DIN connectors, only RCA.
Is it possible to order (now or in the future) a phonocable with a 5 pin DIN connector?
(I am not in a hurry; i have patience)

Otherwise i have to go to Audioquest or MIT.
And i’m sure you don’t want that.

Another question.
At the moment i’m using a very simple phonostage with the standard EAT phonocable.
In the near future i would like to upgrade to a “real” phonostage.
Simaudio or maybe Pass Labs.
They are both fully balanced differential designs with both RCA and XLR inputs.
Would there be a benefit in using the XLR input over the RCA input?

In other words; should i request a Alpha phonocable with 5 pin DIN to RCA connector or a Alpha phonocable with 5 pin DIN to XLR connector?

I hope you will consider thinking about such a cable.
I know lots of people will be eager to use it.

Thank you for your time and products.

Sander Lith
from the Netherlands.

I faced this same issue last year, looking for a replacement phono cable for my SME V tonearm. I contacted Shunyata, & was told that there was no phono DIN option, & that there were no plans to offer one in the future. I ended up going with an Audience AU24 SX DIN phono cable instead. (I can't comment on the sound of the cable, as a household mold disaster has prevented me from using my system since then...)

If you go with an Audience, be aware that they come in low- & high- impedance versions to match your phono cartridge.

The Pass Labs phono stages only have unbalanced inputs, so I can't help there, but I would expect a properly-designed balanced cable to be an advantage with the low-level signal from a phono cartridge...

Yep, I have the same issue as Crumhorn with my SME V arm, too. Need a 90° DIN for the arm-end. Would love to be able to use a Venom-class cable if a 90° DIN were available.

I think I am going to have to go with a Cardas Clear Cygnus cable with a Cardas 90° DIN plug.

But I'd still prefer to use a Shunyata cable!

PS: I have a Koetsu also, an Urushi Vermilion.

I saw that - do you have a sense how the Urushi Vermilion compares to the Rosewood Signature? I'm probably due for a rebuild soon...
