Hope they are doing it for you Harbapapa, can't really remember an ugly moment at all with settling them in and the changes were more noticeable on 3.7s... and most every other bit of gear that Ive put into the system.
Though by the time the 20.7s got here the positioning within the room and the supporting gear was fairly much set for them. That said the panels do clearly free up somewhere at about 600hrs and keep doing so through till about 900hrs (yes, I play a silly amount of music on the days I work from home) with more agility and better timing in bass rather than necessarily the extension. They have proven a constant foundation and their primary shortcoming seems to be more in terms of revealing the shortcomings of any gear you throw at them... Have yet to hit the limits of their abolities and I'm tryin... I still hold the resistors are their only significant weakness and give off a slight compressive edge and brittleness to their upper mids and tops when the vol is cranking... Putting in a good set of jumpers means they run more transparent/faster with the downside being then that the rest of our gear has to play nice still ... Still lovin em. About the only thing I've ever done is on weekends, just let the music play for 18 hours or so a day. With me dropping in to have a listen now and then. In my case the 20.7s seem to be going through a very gradual refinement. They sounded great right off, and slowly but surely they are improving from there. I would Imagine I now have at least 200 hours on them, and I seldom crank them up loud, so they've probably still need more time on them...but if they never changed at all from where they are this minute, It's fine with me. |

Yes they did have oval bases (strangely, bases were off-white even though speakers had natural oak trims and black fabrics - I think black would suit better). The thing that happened was that I got mine 20.7s pretty quickly ( in a month) because distributor for some reason happened to have 20.7 at storage with exactly the same colours what I wanted. I would have gotten them even faster, but they were waiting to get my new amps to the same package. But I didn't want oval bases (especially off-white), but because I got them so fast, I didn't care. But then we agreed with my dealer that I'll take my old 20.1s T-legs and who will buy my old 20.1s he will get oval bases for them (colour suits better to them because they have off-white fabrics). I will paint my old T-legs to black "some day when I have time".
I posted a link to my pictures earlier. They are only pictures so far... |

I got them set up last night (saturday). Didn't have time to do real listening ( I'm married with kids - otherwise I would have probably listen through night!). I just love "fragrance" of new Maggies - it fulfills the whole house! I left them playing music in a soft volume through night.

First listening done with new 20.7s and ARC ds450m monos.
First impression was that these babes need break in. Bass was like going back to 3.7s (patience, patience). Very noticeable thing was that compared with previous 20.1/bel canto ref1000m compination, there is now more accuracy and speed. Transient attacks are lightning fast, especially in treble region. Cymbals and bells are very sharp but not annoying. Couple of months ago I had a change to listen Magico Q5s at dealers listening room. I would say that moving from 20.1 to 20.7 feels kind of like moving towards Magico Q5s. 20.7s ribbon (from first impression) seems to be brighter and "purer" which makes you hear little details better. Of course, this brightness may tame a little a bit as break in continues? Another thing was that sound stage is now larger and would put this partly to ARCs merit. ARC just seems to make something magical to that. It's funny, but soundstage just seems to grow and grow from every piece of ARC I put my chain? What I liked was that instruments just seem to fill to space behind and between speakers. This was also a relief to me, because first time I heard 20.7s, the only thing that bothered me was that soundstage wasn't very deep. Thing about that was that dealer had to move speakers pretty close to the wall behind speakers, because otherwise bass was too strong. I think that shrinked soundstage (and also electronics weren't ARC). Midrange seemed to be clearer and more balanced compared to 20.1s. This was also another thing that I wasn't totally happy with 20.1s. I think that sounds in midrange aren't competing anymore. Every sound and instrument has its own "place". I had a very enjoyable time with my new gear. Patience is needed for break in. I'm married with kids, so I can't play them loud all day along. Last edited by Harbapapa; 01-01-2013 at 02:48 AM. |

It is great to hear they are starting to settle in already. Some have said they keep improving up to a year. One thing is for sure, you have the makings of a first class audio system. Enjoy!
