According to McIntosh, it is for their amplifiers with Autoformers. Can’t see any issue for any speakers or at least the majority. (I guess there may be some esoteric stuff out there that might react badly...)

Absolutely! It was recommended by Chuck Hinton at McIntosh. I’ve had no issues.

After reading this on Friday I gave it a try over the weekend.
I have 2 identical sets of Furutech Alpha cables connected from my Legacy Focus S/E's to M601's. I had both of them connected to the 4 ohm taps but switched the woofer connection to the 8 ohm taps. The bass was significantly stronger. Not sure if it was better or not but it was more powerful. I need more time to get some good listening in. What I found was really nice with my setup is that my speakers have a -2 DB trim for both lows and highs. So my thought is that if the bass appears to be to much then I can just flip the switch on the x-overs and get an overall +1 DB. I am going to leave it for now until I have enough time to make an informed decision. Thanks for the tip.

My speaker cables are 4x4. Right now I have the amp end piggy backed with both connected to the 4 ohm tap. Am I understanding this correctly that I can separate two to the 8 ohm two and two to the 4 ohm tap? It’s safe to do?
