Yes, 20wpc. Quite strong for a SET amp.

Just listening to some piano and big-band music. Think these may sound more like live piano than any other amp I've listened to. Also, do like what I hear with monobloc amps. Whether real or imagined, they do seem to place the various performers in a 'spot' in the sound-stage better than stereo amps. Both left-to-right and front-to-back.

Indeed. IIRC, Dennis Had's new SET amp, running the KT-150 tube, is cranking out 12wpc. Have a design for a dual-parallel KT-88 SET amp. Think it would likely make around 20wpc. May yet build it once I clear my plate of all other projects. If the 572B tube disappears, may have to redo these to run a KT-88. There are plenty of the 572-3 tubes out there, so for now, I'm set (pun intended ).

Ha! At least the KT-88, KT120 and KT150's are current manufacture now.

Yes........ that is an advantage. If I find that these amps to be 'irreplaceable' I'll put a couple of sets of the 572s on the shelf. Matched pairs are about $360, similar in price to a premium quad of KT-88s with a similar 2000hr life.

Think I'm going to have to find a proper Cary preamp to replace the Bryston BP-25 for these.
Congrats! Very nice looking! Enjoy!!

Thanks. Been listening since about 3:30 a.m. (broke my self-imposed rule of no caffeine after 1:00 p.m.). In this case it has given me a few more hours of listening in the quiet of the morning to enjoy the new 572s.

Ordered a set of tubes. Total cost, including shipping, was $440 for all eight tubes. All-in-all, not too bad. A complete set of Gold Lions for my SLI 80 would be pretty much the same price. Once they arrive I'll get them burned-in and then on the shelf they go. Found that Cary has the best price on a pair of 572-3 tubes.

BTW - Dennis Had told me he is way to busy to work on a preamp with remote control at the moment. His next project will be a phono-preamp. Think I will take the voltage divider network out of my SLI 80 and make the "Sub Out" a true direct pass-thru. Can then run the CAD 572 MkIIs from it. 40wpc of triode PP for the bottom of my speakers and 20wpc of SET for the tops. Should be fun.

New tubeset from Cary arrived and rolled into the amps this morning. Wow!! Immediate big improvement. Know that the amps came with one new and one 'used' 572-3 tube. The used tube must have been tired as they now have the same 3-dimensional sound that the SLI 80 has and was a bit disappointed in these not having.

While waiting for the morning chill to burn off (time to garden) decided to rearrange everything to a "Cary shelf". Gave me an 'opportunity' to clean up the rats nest of wires I had built up swapping gear over the last year. Think its time to invest in a decent rack.
